Resumes won't mean a single thing if they ever fight

Interesting fight, Vargas fought with a plan and stuck to it. He landed plenty of shots but really was fighting for points and at no point seemed to have Rodriguez bothered. Rodriguez used some good angles and was setting up his punches. They both executed their plans well but Rodriguez just has more.

As for an Inoue fight. I still feel like I need to keep Inoue as the favorite. Bam could pull a Nery with the tricky southpaw stance and land a short hard left and drop Inoue. However, I saw Vargas landing some left hooks and backing Bam up and just have the impression that Inoue would do the same but with power on his punches.

I think Rodriguez would bring the fight to Inoue and make it fund but I still favor Naoya.

 

I think your analysis is accurate. Clearly, he is trying to imitate Loma's movement but looks awkward or clumsy when doing so. Bam has a lot of power for these lower weight divisions, which means he has the potential to stop anyone, including Inoue. However, Inoue's power, resilience, and movement will give Bam trouble. Bam is younger and at the lower weighs, that is meaningful, but I still see Inoue as the favorite. Since Bam has never really been tested, it would be interesting to see how he responds if pressed. He seemed to cover, and not that effectively, when Vargas was on the front foot.

I would categorize this as a pick 'em fight with the expectation that Inoue stops him. Inoue has earned the right for this fight to be fought in Tokyo, and that's where it should be fought.

As an aside, I think Loma would have dominated Bam, and made him look amateurish.

 

Bam Bam was less dominating early on last night because he was fighting a skilled Olympian who is taller and naturally bigger than himself. But still he came through with a nice KO.

Vargas may have been down in several other fights, but he was only ever stopped once, and that was back in 2019. So let's give Rodriguez some deserved credit for an impressive win.

 

That is the level of unhinge fan boy from him. “well Bam has a better resume” Has nothing to do with talking about what would happen in a fight. Also better resume is taken with a grain of salt when it comes from a huge fan.

 

Bam was impressive but Vargas played right into his hands. At times Vargas nullified Bam's spin out by hooking him but too often he stood in close and got potshotted from Bam's lefts. I don't believe Inoue will do that. He is more nimble.

 

Inoue defeated Nonito Donaire who is a legend.
