Could Duran have held his own in the 80s?

I'm not sure I'd pick Duran over Chavez tbh. Whittaker is a stylistic nightmare imo, especially depending on what age we're plopping Duran into the 80s. Camacho I don't think would beat Duran. I just don't see it, regardless of how flashy and athletic he was, I was never especially convinced of Camacho's ability in all honesty. Rosario gets mauled by Duran. Jose Luis Ramirez would be a fun fight but I don't think there's much a doubt over Duran winning. Frankie Randall is an interesting proposition for Duran and a dangerous banana peel for him imo. Arguello would also be a serious proposition for Duran to deal with, especially considering how a similarly twiggy power-puncher in Hearns wrecked Duran. He'd do well for himself, no doubt, but I don't think he'd be anywhere near as dominant as he was in the 70s.

 

If Duran worked his way unbeaten through Arguello, Rosario, Camacho, Chavez and Whitaker whilst holding 2 or 3 of the belts then he’d have a better lightweight resumé than he actually did and, as it stands, he places at worst 3rd on most good all-time lightweight lists.

Duran's right hand lead would alter Hector. It was quick, laser accuracy how many could Camacho absorb before survival mode kicks in? Then you have Duran's defense, coming forward relentless yet slippery. Hector is in for a rough nite. Maybe a short nite.

 

Duran did hold his own in the '80s. He more than held his own. He won three world titles, at welter, junior middle, and middle.

I'll venture to guess that if he's ten years younger and fighting at his natural weight, his record and accomplishments aren't going to be any less than what the actual '80s Duran accomplished when he was outsized pretty much every time out.
