Who did worse: Usyk against Rico or Fury against Ngannou?

levels...fury is not on usyk's. that dude that pushed usyk would have ended fury in the ring under the lights.

 

Usyk did better on paper but Fury's performance is more impressive when you look into it.
Usyk took it a bit easy probably but he would have been far more prepared than Fury.
Fury was not prepared properly at all and had a trainer who told him it would be a walk in the park and didn't take it seriously either.
Fury managed to turn it around and still squeak a victory with his determination and skills.
Many fighters would have lost that night under those circumstances.
When you think what was at stake and being in the ring as Fury that night and getting dropped and hurt and having your entire legacy flash before your eyes with the world watching, I mean, he did a pretty good job salvaging that and escaping with only a bit of humiliation.

 

Fury did worse, how is this a question?

Rico is much better than Ngannou and Usyk stopped him.

Ngannou is not a good boxer by any means and he nearly mopped Fury up.

 

They did equally bad.

 

Fury was terrible, took it lightly out of shape got dropped.
Usyk might have taken it lightly, but still got a stoppage - even if controversial

 

Ngannou is a very big guy that hits hard. Sure. Rico is 6'5 260-265 of solid muscle. He's basically Ngannou with way more boxing expertise and much more stamina. Ngannou did dick all for about the last three rounds against Fury ( in a 10 round fight) because he was gassed. Rico was going full tilt until Usyk put him down. Rico definitely doesn't have the power Ngannou does, but that's it.

 

But the power is the thing that makes Ngannou a unique threat. That's the whole point of what I'm saying. He had a very specialized boxing skillset. Experience trying to knock someone out in a very short period of time against someone trying to do the same. While Ngannou's cardio was terrible it was better than all the MMA HW's with that skillset.

It says on boxrec Rico's KO rate in kickboxing is 29%. I don't know about kickboxing but in boxing that's historically low.

 

Ngannou has/had the worst cardio out of any top MMA heavyweight. Stipe Miocic had probably the best gastank and allround (as in good in all areas without any specialized skill) skillset within MMA, and he just outworked Ngannou in their first fight.

Kickboxing bouts are 2-5 x 3 min rnds (sometimes 2 x 2 min rnds), so knockouts are more rare there.

 

Ngannou is a 270+lb powerhouse, but the guy can't throw a haymaker without falling off balance.

I was rewatching Fury-Ngannou and laughing at how ridiculous it was. Ngannou had 0 head movement, footwork, lateral movement or proper boxing guard. Every time Fury threw something, Ngannou countered with a predictable left hook.

The last rounds Ngannou was spent and Fury did NOTHING.
