He still won in spite of it. It’s not like I said he perfectly countered the jab, I said he fought through it.
Louis had a better jab, just not at its best in the fight with Rocky...yet it still found a home. I did not say that Mercer had a higher workmate than Rocky, I suggested that his engine would allow him to keep pace, and for me, keeping pace with Rocky doesn't mean matching his prodigious output, it means applying real, tangible pressure for as long as the fight lasts, and for me, Mercer can do that. I honestly think he can walk Marciano down. Bust him up with jabs, eat the punishment coming back from the significantly smaller man and dish out his own. You disagree and brother thats cool. Discussions like this are always 'gut' based and my gut says the walking anvil that was prime Mercer walks through a version of hell and stops an always game Rocky. What an interesting chat. Thanks for your contribution, peace and love, Px Ps, I think Lewis did have a decent jab and it was a tool he grew reliant on later in his career as he became more defensively prudent. I thought Ray edged their fight being honest but not bt enough to call it a robbery, one of those nights. Bruno had a thunderous jab and I'd fully expect him to outjab most...
No hard feelings. I believe Rocky’s power, body punching, and inside fighting skills would give him the edge in a war, but that’s just my opinion. It was pleasant talking with you.
Larry was nowhere as depleted when he faced Mercer as when Louis faced Marciano. For one, Larry had two hands. He had his full arsenal of punches. And he wasn't shuffling around the ring like Boris Karloff. Not in 1951 it wasn't.
Marciano is probably the most maligned fighter on this forum. These days Terence Crawford gets favoured over him in h2h matchups ffs. Don't add me to your group. Mercer trying to bribe his way out of an arse kicking by a shot Jesse Ferguson and drawing with professional loser Marion Wilson and Morrison getting his face smashed and going life and death with Joe Hipp and then getting splattered in a round by a part time boxer in Michael Bentt makes me think Marciano might do okay against these two.
Morrison got a broken jaw and a broken hand,he still floored Hip twice and broke his cheek bone. Marciano might beat both,I'm just throwing it out there to invite, and stimulate discussion,I'm under the impression that's what a public forum like this is for.
Way above both exactly how? In a head-to-head sense. The only thing Marciano had going for him was a chef's choice of geriatrics, light heavies and white dopes.
I don’t like Marciano’s chances against Mercer. Ray had the chin to withstand the SuzieQ but not sure if Rocky could take a two fisted mauling like the one Mercer unleashed on Morrison…. And speaking of Morrison, this is a fight that Marciano might win but it would be dangerous
This is exactly how I see it.. it’s totally possible for a great fighter to lose to a non-great fighter on the basis of styles and physical tools. It’s happened many times in actuality throughout boxing.
