These are the guy's I'd put Max Schmeling over personally. Primo Carnera Jess Willard Tommy Burns James J Braddock Ingemar Johannson Floyd Patterson Zora Folley Cleveland Williams Anybody you see beating Max? And why?
I think Floyd would get him. He's very, very fast and that's a difficult punch for someone that boxes in straight lines (primarily) to deal with. I think he's got a style advantage that bleeds into their physical differences. Max is a killer when he gets on top though so Patterson is vulnerable and he would win sometimes, but I think Patterson would won 55, 56 times out of a 100, soemthing like that.
That sounds fair enough. Perhaps I underestimate Floyd at time's, his tendency to get dropped and Max had that ***** of a right hand.
A prime version of my man Max beats most of those posers the same way he schooled Joe Louis. However, prime Ingo, prime Floyd and prime Clive are risky 50-50 fights and sure they could well beat Max.
Braddock beat Max Baer, Farr and John Henry Lewis. He also went the distance with Loughran. Carnera was the only giant that Loughran couldn't do nothing against. If Loughran couldn't do nothing against prime Carnera I don't think Schmeling could. Folley, Patterson and Ingo could beat Schmeling if they fight him at the right time but I'd generally favor Max. Schmelings generation of Euro regionals was stronger. Tommy Burns and Cleveland Williams. I agree with you. Willard has nothing for Schmeling.
Beats Braddock, Folley, Ingo, and Burns handily, 50\50 with Patterson but I think he will get it done late. Carnera, Cleve and Willard difficult tasks because I don't think Max has proven he can beat big heavyweights like that. Carnera and Willard aren't in Schmeling's class as a boxer sure but they were also very physical guys; and Max is roughly the same size as Loughran when Primo manhandled him. Both of them were very tough as well, and Cleve is much more talented and skilled than, say, Baer. I'd be more confident in Max beating Cleve than the other two because of their sheer physicality and size.
