two similar fighters. Very tall for their weight divisions. Both incredible at controlling range. Both fantastic left hookers though Foster has an edge there. Both had strong right hands though Alexis had an edge there. What say you?
Arguello. He's an ATG body puncher with both mitts, ATG power in both mitts, the full array of punches and is the master of dragging people into deep water while simulataneously diminishing their strength and reserves. He's a long range nightmare while still having the power to decimate you early if you want to push him to. Foster can get underrated skill wise, he's more than just GOAT type power and a whipping jab.
Arguello for sure. I have long been a bit of a detractor of Foster’s. Very good fighter obviously, and excellent power, but he ruled in an impossibly weak LHW era, and had a habit of making himself smaller than necessary and leaning in, negating his advantages in height and reach. He did it to bait opponents, I get that, but it just felt unnecessary. Arguello used his carriage well, and exerted it to a real advantage. All while being stoic and accepting of the occasions when he had to gut it out on the inside and pit his will against others. Then there’s his resume; Foster’s pales in comparison.
I agree with everything but I will give props to Foster. Resume, and weight climbing he pales against Alexis but that destruction of Dick Tiger was something Arguello didn't manage against any similar ATG. It was chilling.
Alexis Arguello clearly. More tools in his arsenal, greater technician more well rounded fighter, and was able to beat good fighters while going up in weight.
Arguello had a more complete arsenal. His timing was second to none. Foster would have the edge in the jab category.
Arguello by far. He was a complete boxer. He succeeded as he stepped up in weight, where Foster just couldn't compete with the big guys at HW.
