Martinez Mayweather 1 Rosario Taylor Camacho That’s in chronological order. Each win elevated his status higher. All 5 were top, tough opponents and featured great performances by Chavez - arguably Taylor was his worst performance of those 5 so the fact that he still got it done when being outboxed is the impressive thing there, but no doubt it was one of his greatest wins.
What a fighter. I started this thread as i have neglected the lighter weights for a while and i want to go back and watch footage of these greats.

Taylor suffered a broken eye socket, broken ribs, badly busted up face, had a lot of blood pumped from his stomach, was ****ing blood for weeks and was in hospital for almost 2 weeks following the fight.
Good to see the first Mayweather fight hasn’t been forgotten. I came here thinking I’d need to throw it in the mix as a reminder because it was before he became “JC Superstar” and might be overshadowed by his later exploits. I happened to rewatch it this past week and … what a force of nature Julio was. Fantastic performance that foreshadowed his career trajectory.
Good post and I agree with most of it. I do not think that he was being "outboxed" by Taylor. Rather, and the evidence support this conclusion, he was systematically beating Taylor to pieces while taylor was looking flashy.
Its a bit of both. Taylor was having a lot of success but was also taking a lot of damage. A few more seconds and Taylor could have won.
If you want an absolute sterling boxing example of winning the battle while losing the war, it’s Chavez-Taylor I. Meldrick was winning the battle but he lost the war. Even if Steele doesn’t wave it off, Taylor would never be the same again. At the end, Meldrick was like that Jim Croce line in ‘Bad, Bad Leroy Brown’ — he looked like a jigsaw puzzle with a couple of pieces gone.
he sure doesnt have many impressive wins does he? Camacho looked like a shell with no life. i would say about the only one is Rosario. Mayweather had already been ko'd in one by someone else so its not much of a win
I actually thought Meldrick looked pretty good after that loss, which we all know, wasnt really a loss. He went on to win the welterweight title in impressive fashion via 12 round shutout. It took an even better, more talented fighter to put an end to Meldrick, not by controversial tko at the end of the fight but by 4 round tko. Much more convincing
