Vitali Klitschko vs Rocky Marciano

Moore, Charles, Walcott and Louis also had more skill. It didn’t help. Marcianos attributes as a fighter much like Vitali aren’t as much skill based. But good power, chin, most importantly style for their builds.
You can literally watch Marciano counter jabs in almost all his fights. With his crouch he generally let it slide over his back and would pop up for a counter.
I’ll remind you Lewis was a fat out of shape 37 year old that was tiring Vitali out with a higher pace than Vitali is used to. The greats win by making others fight at THEIR pace. Do you think Vitali would be able to keep Marciano from attacking constantly? Do you really think Marciano cared about anyone else’s power that much? A guy willing to fight with half a face? When Vitali tires and he would he would be a goner. Maybe it ends on a cut? Torn rotator cuff from missing his extremely low target? Maybe it’s a tko. If Chisora can survive Vitali I’d wager Marciano could.

 

2 rounds if Rocky tries his hardest to survive. The size advantage is way too great. This isn’t someone who is there because he was 5 inches and 60 pounds bigger. He is someone who fought very good fighters that were his size.
Rocky’s not fighting 180 something lbs guy here. The punches from a top world class fighter who is 50 pounds heavier will land like cement blocks.

 

Takes a hell of a shot and hits pretty hard.

Vitali would not attempt to stop Marciano attacking, he would want him coming in so he could jab his face off.
Vitali was cut in 1 fight,by a giant, Rocky was cut in many of his fights by small heavyweights.
Why do you think Rocky survives Vitali's punches long enough for the big man to tire?
You dont think fighting a man 50/60lbs heavier and 8 1/2 inches taller would be tiring?
Marciano's stamina was largely on show against older, past prime men and ,as for not caring about his opponents power that's just a ridiculous remark,he was floored by a 41 years old188lbs lhvy , and by his own admission blacked out for several seconds,he got up expecting a standing 8 count,[ which was waived for title fights,]and headed towards the ropes.
Nobody with any sense tries to just walk through an opponents punches,unless their defence is so bad they have no choice.

Do you think Moore hit harder than Vitali?
Marciano was never hit by a prime super heavy of any ability.
To say he weathers the power of one is a leap of faith. Vitali was cut in1 fight and injured his arm in1 fight,why would you expect that to happen again?
Vitali was never floored ,so why would you think a185lbs Marciano would accomplish what Lennox Lewis couldn't?

I am one of these old men who believe fighters from past eras were far superior to their modern-day counterparts, and even I have a hard time picturing Rocky winning this one.

I will say one thing though: VK was never hit with a shot as hard as the one Marciano landed on Walcott to end their first fight imo. If he gets hit with that punch he probably doesn't get up either. But Rocky would have to climb a step ladder to reach him.

I don’t think Vitali hit much harder than Moore or Walcott. Much like the 207 pound Wilder hit much harder than Vitali. This is a difficult thing for some to understand. The other two were faster and set up their opponents better.
If Lewis fight were allowed to continue Vitali prob does get knocked out. He was getting rung pretty bad on the last rounds.

 

With his 62 inch reach and standing 5 foot 6, can Rocky even reach Vitali's chin without a stepladder?

 

No he didnt ,Carnera had a weak chin,and did not punch his weight.

Didn't VK have bad knees from his kickboxing career or something like that? Rocky would have absolutely destroyed those knees with extremely powerful, short armed punches

Far be it from me to orcrestraghit or dictate how a discussion should go, or how long it remains active and or interesting, but this thread has ( at least for me ) run its course, surely there is nothing more to be said on the topic, we have had the great and the good put their tuppence worth in, and sides seem to be entrenched, in the words of the fab four " let it be " PLEASE......
