Are champions like Wlad, Manny Pacquiao, Canelo... disappearing?

That's beside the point. Who cares that Canelo has had 68 fights if around half of them were against journeyman or domestic level guys. He could have 100+ fights for all I care, it's about quality not quantity.

 

Its both, and arguing that quality is superior means you have no grasp of how the business side of this sport works. And 18 year old nobody in Mexico wont have access to regular top quality opposition.
In contrast, in Japan they can have that access due to how the sport is set up.

And the overall point is that boxers today are too inactive, which I personally view as an issue.

 

Some fighters learn the ropes in the amateur ranks before turning pro, others turn pro very early and hence are moved very slowly. I don't see why one deserves more credit than the other. Different routes toward the same goal of reaching championship level.

 

I understand that, but even then it does not make sense for so many boxers to be so inactive. Usyk became a champ nearly 10 years ago, and hes only had 15 fights since.
Crawford had 19 fights over his 10 year championship run.

 

I think in many cases it can be how many fights they had before winning a world title.
There would always be fewer that did, which is why the ones that did are such legends.
What were you thinking? Champions Former or during that had 60 plus fights in recent years?

Wlad had a crazy amount of fights at the start of his career. Something like 28 fights in the first 25 months. If they don't fight a lot at the start when they're prospects, they won't all of a sudden start fighting 5 times a year at world level when the risk and needed preparation time is much higher.
