Your Mayweather comparison made me watch some of that again. I just burst out laughing. What made me laugh was Andy Clarke saying "Darch has always had some ability." Well, that's an arbitrary compliment to pay him. I'd argue not very much ability.

Allen looks so smug, and the Matchroom mugths then start singing "walking in an Allen wonderland".

Allen is the absolute opposite of being too small to be a heavyweight. He's a natural heavyweight. He was relatively lean (for a heavyweight) for the Price bout and he was over 240lbs, that's 40lbs over the threshold and he was not muscle bound like an Adeleye.

It's the guys who are pumped up to the max that are not natural heavyweights, not guys that appear smaller like Allen who weigh a lot.

People get this the wrong way around a lot. How could Allen lose 40lbs if he already looks small at the weight?

 

I agree with that, Allen is huge. There’s not a chance he could get near CW from dropping weight; perhaps BW but who cares about that division...

He’s genuinely a unit if you think about it, coupled with his durability in the ring. Even when he’s grossly overweight his engine during fights is still ok. Shame he doesn’t dedicate himself to getting into his best athletic shape and improving his boxing. Some of the moves he does in the ring is comical, the classic one where he drops his hands, chops his arm to his opponent’s body and pivots right into his opponent’s range with zero defence. In fact he doesn’t even pivot he just strolls across! That’s what led to that concussion against Usyk.

Fought Ross McGuigan (7-11-1) in a four rounder last night and won on points. McGuigan had lost eight and drawn once in his previous nine fights and was stopped six weeks ago in his last fight.

Eleven of Daves 26 wins have come against guys with losing records and there's plenty of tomato cans in the other fifteen wins. The man must be a millionaire and has fought on a number of big shows, all despite this, fair play to him but surely this stops soon.

 

Allen is a great character and I much prefer listening to him than watching him fight, I think he often gets too much smoke blown up his arse because of his likeability, he's always getting told that he has loads of ability and has underachieved, when in reality he's just a plodder, that uses his lack of discipline as an excuse.

His podcast with Pat Brown is excellent, they are both great lads, and ironically I think Daves real talent is the media stuff he does.

I posted this in another thread but yes, It was an entertaining little four rounder, Ross gave Dave the work he needed and both guys did what they were required to do. Dave is back out again on 25th July at the Doncaster Dome.

 

Has Dave got any of the lads on the undercard?

It’s events like that which can actually revive the sport in an area. Say what you want about Allen, he does give back to the game. No way he needs to be on these sort of cards, he’s basically fighting for free.

Edit : Plus it keeps Dave visible.

 

I do enjoy his TikTok Q&As each day - people constantly saying "can you not fight on Misfits for the cash" and he always turns it town. Seems pretty dedicated to the fighters he's looking after and the pro game in general, even if he wasn't the best at it.

You lost me at TikTok mate... but joking aside I think Dave genuinely wants the British title. He comes from boxing family tradition, so Misfits is probably a last resort for him rather than the plan it is for others.

 

Have to say, Dave is a gentleman and a class act. Had spoken, but hadn’t met him properly prior to Saturday night. Absolutely genuine to the core and knows his boxing.

 

Haha - I'm probably 35 years too old for TikTok but then Allen popped up and made it entertaining.

I'd hate to see him in Misfits or BKB, he actually seems to live for professional boxing despite all the ins and outs he's had. Fighting a 4-rounder for nothing kind of tells that story. I've no doubt the fighters he looks after will be well advised too.

 

Think Dave just needs to be kept busy mate. Don’t think he does well with too much time on his hands, and I think he’ll be good for the kids he manages.

After all, he knows the price he paid for no discipline, and he knows what it’s like to be exploited. Boxing Whyte and Ortiz for peanuts, then a couple of years later taking a pounding off Yoka.

People think Dave is daft because he plays the fool, but he’s been around the game long enough to know how it works, and more importantly how it can chew lads up if they haven’t got someone looking out for them.
