This was another missed opportunity fight that could have happened. Bobby Chacon takes on Rocky Lockridge in 1984 rather than moving up to 135 to fight Ray Mancini. How would this firefight have gone and would Chacon be able to handle the constant pressure and in-fighting work from Lockridge? This would have been yet another unbelievable war at SFW of the 80s if this had took place.
Good fight, but I think the more youthful Lockridge hammers out a convincing decision over a game but outgunned Chacon. I’ve noticed Rocky wasn’t the best finisher ever; he was resolute and busy but didn’t seem to have that extra gear when an opponent was ready to go. I think that’s why the ever-courageous Chacon hears the final bell.
Chacon didn´t have a lot left in 1984 but stylewise Lockridge was perfect for Bobby who loved counter-punching off the ropes. Rocky only knew one to fight. Bobby was one tough cookie. Peak for peak I´d go for Chacon to win war late but in ´84 after 2 straight vicious wars with Limon and Boza, my money would be on for Lockridge on points riding out some rough moments when caught in some punishing exchanges. Going with the consensus here. The underrated Lockridge over the underrated Chacon by UD, On a Saturday afternoon fight on CBS, that could've easily happened.
