@130 or 140 where they were both champions at those weights. Gatti was out of his depth against an ATG in Floyd Mayweather Jr but how would he have done against Roger Mayweather? Roger is the better technician than Gatti and also a dangerous hitter as well. Big difference was that he more vulnerable than his nephew and his chin was a major weakness which should give Gatti a good enough chance. Does Gatti find a way to land a thunderous punch to win by knockout or does the Black Mamba thoroughly outbox and perhaps stop him?
I agree. Roger Mayweather was a better boxer than Arturo Gatti and might have outclassed him. But Gatti was a big puncher and Mayweather’s chin was vulnerable. Hard fight to choose a winner
Mayweather kills Gatti. He would run face first into a brick wall. As exciting as Gatti could be, the truth is that he lost to Ivan Robinson twice....in his prime. Roger Mayweather was a much better fighter than Ivan Robinson.
The one thing I can say with certainty is that Arturo’s left eye would start swelling up at the weigh-in. And that actually plays into how I think it would unfold. I see some tense moments for Roger in the first 4-5 rounds — Gatti was brave and a gifted offensive boxer, he would break through with some big salvos and at last wobble this Mayweather a few ties. But Roger was a sharpshooter, and after he began to swell that eye up that would create some vision problems. And somewhere between rounds 6 and 10, that right hand would start to land with Gatti’s inability to see it coming and his general defensive liabilities. And eventually it would crash home cleanly. When that happens, it’s the beginning of the end for Arturo. Mayweather KO 10.
I don't know I was a HUGE HUGE fan of Roger but he had one of the weirdest careers I have seen. Pendleton knocked him out. Lockridge one punched him. Hell he made Chavez look like Mike Tyson. Roger does have the power to hurt Gatti but he simply doesn't have the chin to withstand what's coming back and Gatti will throw back. Sure Mayweather could possibly get on his bike and win but Gatti, especially the younger Gatti , is going to press him and somewhere in that bout Mayweather is going to have to fight. And that's where I think Gatti would clock him.
If Gatti was to land frequently on Mayweather its over for Mayweather because his chin wasn't that good and Gatti was a pretty good puncher.
I see him landing some shots but not really being able to tee off. The Mamba would fight back and Arturo would have to respect that.
I think Roger would land that powerful right hand too much. Gatti was very vulnerable to that shot and Roger had a terrific one. Roger was chinny, although it was better at this weight than it was at 130. So Gatti of course is a live underdog, he might pull off a come-from-behind knockout, but I would favor Mayweather in this one in the mid to late rounds
I don't consider them to be in the same league but at least there's a reasonable chance of upset. But a big majority of the time, I'd see Mayweather winning either which way. Too big a skill gap, mixed with Mayweather also having a serious punch. I don't think there's anything he's not going to plaster Gatti with, honestly.
See Mayweather vs Pazienza. They say defense wins football games.....it would also win this fight in my opinion. Roger by UD.
