Lloyd Honeyghan vs Ricardo Mayorga

I think this is a 50/50 fight. I can't stand Mayorga as a fighter but his wild swinging style cost me a bunch of money back in the day. I bet heavily on Forrest knocking him out in their rematch but couldn't have been more wrong. Never in a million years did I think he could win a decision against a technician like Forrest. I also lost money on Mayorga vs Vargas and Mayorga vs Lewis.

Gun to my head, I have Lloyd but Mayorga always cost me money.

 

Crowd pleasing fight one way or the other. Two big punchers who went for it.

 

Lean toward Honeyghan

 

Hi Buddy.
Have to take a slight friendly issue with you about Honeygan being a big puncher, true at first glance his 30 stoppages out of 43 fights would suggest he was indeed a puncher, but of those 30, only 6 were the genuine KO, all the rest were TKOs, either KDs, or cuts, I saw plenty of his fights even as a amatuer, and he didn't strike me as a puncher, more hard and hurtful, of all the British fighters that went on to be world champs, Honeyghan is the one that impresses me the least ( sorry Noel ) I try hard to put aside he is a risable man, utterly devoid of manners, the Curry win was wholly down to Don shredding weight, too much and too quick, had that not been the case, Curry would have had him out of there in scant time, his defenses, such as they were, didn't amount to much, Bumphus, Hatcher, and the wild swinging Vaca, of whom he lost to are not cream of the crop, up against true world class fighters he came up short, I will give him credit for the Rossi win, fair play, there is always a thread on here about over/under achievers, Honeygan is, for me in the first category, I am anticipating a strong pushback from his supporters, of which there are many, as long as its polite and cordial, fill your boots.

I'm too ignorant to fully comment but Lloyd strikes me as a more complete fighter (obviously) but Curry wasn't right for that fight whereas Mayorga is a bad matchup for Forrest on any night.

 

I am going for Honeyghan but hey Mike i saw an interview with Gary Stretch on you tube where he stated Honeyghan was arrogant and rude.However i already knew this after you told me your experiences with him.Still i will continue to love him and Mike dont forget his excellent over Gianfranco Rosi in Italy

 

Honeyghan from the Curry fight absolutely batters him.

Nice to hear from you as always, I did in fact give him credit for the Rossi win, in my last couple of sentences, by the way, have been out with Stretch on occasions down Islington way back in the early to mid 70s, he was a mean dude with the ladies, they came a flocking, even a handsome chap as myself, was left in the background when he wanted to put the moves on a young lady, happy days.

I like Honeyghan at his best.

 

But the thing with a matchup like this-------would he prepare 100% for a guy like Mayorga? I sure don't think there is a remote chance.

This is the main reason for the Mayorga success. Nobody comes in 100%. Imagine the difficulty with the opposing trainers attempting to get their guy highly prepared > watching Mayorga on tape. Good luck. What fighter would think they are going to get hit with those punches being thrown? So they underperform on fight night and now a guy like Mayorga is dangerous.

Sure see Lloyd bringing in his B game for a guy like this. There is a better likelyhood of him bringing in his C game than being razor sharp for a guy like Mayorga.
