July 13, 1986 billed as Friday the 13th Resurrection two Puerto Rican HOFers fought in Madison Square Garden with Camacho's WBC title on the line. This was the 4th time that two PRs fought for a world title. It was a highly anticipated showdown where Camacho was seen as a dominant force at the time due to his blinding speed and great boxing skills while Rosario was a dangerous hitter regaining his momentum after losing his title to Jose Luis Ramirez in a hellacious rematch whom Camacho would take the title from later on. The fight turned out to be a very good one as Rosario would be the one to truly test Camacho's heart and intestinal fortitude as he rocks him badly a few times, particularly in the 5th round. Camacho ends up winning the fight via split decision but the fight was very close and competitive with some believing that Rosario did enough to win. I had Camacho 115-113. The two rounds where Rosario hurt Camacho I had Rosario winning but only 10-9s not 10-8s.
My card: Hector Camacho v Edwin Rosario Good battle where Camacho won the battle but Rosario won the war. The big moments were in rounds 5 and 11 where Rosario’s left hook had Camacho in serious trouble. He managed to survive both times and he won the fight between rounds 6 and 10 where Rosario didn’t seem to be able to land that damaging hook. Camacho showed a lot of heart here even if this could be considered a watershed moment in his career where he decided he didn’t want to show that level of heart again (he would do, though, against Julio Cesar Chavez six years later). 1 10-9 2 10-9 3 9-10 (close.
