I remember Hearn and Frank Smith slating Boxxer for the quality of opponents Whittaker had fought under them. I have to say, I'm not exactly blown away with what Matchroom have done so far. Two tomato cans in Gavazi and Suarez. I'm not sure who this Rivera chap is, looks like a bit of a padded record, The only ranking list I could find him on is the WBC at 19.
Whittaker is 29 now, he's no spring chicken and there are tons of decent fights he could be getting involved with. Apart from the elite fighters of the division in Benavidez, Bivol and Beterbiev, the division is stacked with fighters that are very good even if he just based himself in the UK, there's Callum Smith, Joshua Buatsi, Anthony Yarde, Willy Hutchinson, Zak Chelli, Craig Richards. What is the plan for him? Is he going to make a genuine campaign to get to the top, or is he just going to try and make money from his profile by being the flashy KO artist for Insta?

 

Rivera was pretty decent, ran Badou Jack to a MD a couple of years back, but he is likely at the back end of his career. Like an Algieri for Conor Benn.

I think ultimately everyone knows he isnt very good so have to play clever

 

He has a huge online following so they are just looking for clicks and views

 

His following seems suspicious to me. The numbers don’t add up, he has 4m IG followers but only gets 50k to a few 100k likes per post and only a few hundred or so comments.
