To win a heavy weight title between 1990-97?

If Spinks had come along later and decided to move up,is there an opening for him in the time frame given.
    Who and how?

I would give him a chance against Moorer, Foreman, Briggs, and Holyfield if he caught him on an off night.

Yes, he could beat post tokyo Douglas.

    Could beat Moorer.

    Would likely beat McCall.

Definitely. Before his knees failed him Spinks would have a very good chance at picking up a title.

Yes. Frankly, he could do as good as Moorer. If he were born in 1966 rather than 1956 and came along 10 years later. But then he would have missed dethroning Larry Holmes

At select moments vs select belt holders he'd pick up a strap for sure. He'd be most suited vs ponderous type guys and non punchers.

I'd favor him over "The Mirage" Douglas and Bruce Seldon of the WBA gang. I think Moorer could be tough as he hit hard at heavyweight, was young, could box himself and loved belting people. He also grew into heavyweight better than Spinks. Spinks might have to knock him out, which isn't impossible. Over the duration Moorer is going to hit him hard and Spinks chin at heavy is suspect.

He'd be a good chance vs McCall, Bruno on the WBC side. He'd be a very good chance against the slowed down George post Moorer.

Moorer Spinks at heavy is a 50-50 for me. Moorer was naturally over 200 lbs and naturally bigger than Spinks .

He would definitely beat Bruce Seldon.

Yeah a win over Moorer is far from a given. He hits a lot harder than Holmes, has two fisted power and is young at his heavyweight best. I'm 60-40 for Moorer, maybe a touch more. Spiks could certainly get up tho, he really knew how to win fights.

Have you ever thought that maybe you have a bias against Michael Spinks? Something that maybe stems from a childhood trauma? Someone with a mustache stole your favorite toy? ...

Okay, here is a fox for your hen house. Can the Spinks that beat Holmes beat comeback post prison Tyson? Mobile, technically excellent, hits hard enough to keep THAT Mike honest. I give him a chance, what say you...?

You will hardly find a decade where JYNX would not have "candidates" for the title.
Seldon, we know in the 80s, his brother in the 70s, Patterson/Johanson in the 60s. Stiverne in the 2010s... there will always be at least some "belt holder"; would beat Andy Ruiz (AJ 2)

Post prison Tyson, the one that Bruno, Golota etc.?
    Good one .
The further on Tyson goes in his career the better chance Spinks stands.
If Spinks can fight his fight then he's in with a chance, at least for a while.
