Apinun Khongsong: Downua Ruawaiking The Hard Boiled Thai Light Welterweight Trang Province Killer.

Apinun Khongsong 25-4-0 (21KOs) vs Tarik Zaina 14-2-1 (9KOs) in a 10 rounds (Super Lightweight) in Pakistan the 10th May 2025.

The fight was cancelled for an unknown reason (maybe visa problems) Tarik Zaina fought in Philippines and won by TKO 4 against the Filipino Marvin Esquierdo (former Taiga Imanaga's opponent).

 

Apinun Khongsong will be against the Filipino Reymart Soledad 7-0-0 (5KOs) in a 10 rounds for the vacant belt WBC Asia Continental Welterweight the 29th November in Bangkok.

Round 1 : 10-9 Apinun Khongsong. Apinun Khongsong had a very strong start to the fight. He landed a hard left jab on the Filipino's body and tried to land his right right from the beginning. Reymart Soledad started to move away from his sizing-up phase towards the end of the first round, throwing a powerful body shot. Despite this, the Thai fighter was more aggressive in the first round.


Round 2 : 10-9 Reymart Soledad. Reymart Soledad takes this round; his footwork is much better, and he's avoided all of Apinun's body shots. He also dodges the Thai fighter's heavy right by circling to his left. Soledad even manages to land a counter left hook.

Round 3 : 10-9 Apinun Khongsong by his activity. The Filipino fighter had a very good start to the round, landing a straight right to Apinun's chin, but the latter wasn't fazed by the blow. Apinun Khongsong worked with classic one-twos without showing any creativity, but he landed three counter right hands on the Thai fighter. The Thai fighter was looking for a hard shot and aiming for a knockout by any means necessary. Reymart Soledad dodged all the left jabs aimed at his body. However, the Filipino was still waiting for an opening.


Round 4 : 9-9. The two opponents trade blows in this round. Apinun Khongsong lacks precision as he always looks for one-twos to the body which the Filipino always dodges well with his footwork; Soledad's head movements have prevented him from taking counter right hands.Soledad suffered an unintentional low blow; the Thai fighter quickly recovered at the end of the round.I'm tempted to call it a draw.



Round 5 : Reymart Soledad by KO 5. At the beggin of the round the judges have it on their scorecards like a split draw decision. There was a lot of tension at the start of the round, and the referee kept calling them to order. Apinun Khongsong managed to land two counter right hands, breaking up the Filipino's counterattacks each time with clinches. The Filipino focused and saw an opening on the counter with his right hook. He aimed for the Thai fighter's liver, and he collapsed. Reymart Soledad landed a second right hook in the same spot, mimicking Josh Taylor's move. Apinun Khongsong collapsed to the canvas, writhing in pain like a caterpillar. The referee continued counting until the end, in a ridiculous manner. Reymart Soledad won by knockout in the 5th rounds.

A frustrating fight for Apinun Khongsong, but the same old defensive problems persist. His chin was out throughout the entire fight, he lacked a guard, and he didn't move his head enough. He also didn't protect his body at all; Soledad was far superior in terms of footwork and defense. Furthermore, I found Apinun Khongsong very arrogant during this fight. He also lacked variety in his striking repertoire, always resorting to one-twos that he varied, either to the body or the head, but he showed no imagination in his boxing. He was dangerous at the beginning of the fight, but then he became predictable.


Apinun Khongsong was selected in the past by Kiatkreerin Gym to compete against Tewa Kiram, the Thai fighter from TL Boxing Promotion, but he doesn't have Kiram's boxing talent at all; there's a huge gap between the two. Today, he trains at Eagle Gym with Eagle Den Junlaphan, and aside from the fact that he's less quick to end fights, I haven't seen any change in his boxing style. Also, the fact that he still fight in Muay Thai at Pattaya must be affecting his boxing reflexes. He's 29 years old, but sometimes he looks 40 in the ring.
