Even Crawford got put on bambi legs by Gamboa. Canelo got buckled by Jose Cotto. Lomachenko got dropped by Linares. Teofimo got beat up by Kambosos before he smoked Josh Taylor. Inoue has gotten dropped twice and hurt multiple times against less skilled guys than Xander, Nery wasn't as good as Xander. People are being way too critical of Ennis. The reality is he doesn't get hit any more than almost any other elite fighter today bar a few exceptions like Bivol and Usyk. This isn’t a goomba fallacy, it's the same people criticizing overly defensive fighters like Shakur and Haney

This thread will probably be flooded by haters invoking the level of competition as to why Ennis hasn't lost lol.

Boots is the real deal, no one beats him at 154, and this is the same weight class you guys claimed were full of sharks and killers when Ortiz and Crawford were moving to that weight class, so will the goalpost be moved if Ennis dominates ? Is 154 still seen as a strong division after last night ?

Boxing fans are a fickle bunch

I like seeing a top fighter willing to trade punches

Yeh I think boots gets a lot of unfair criticism. To me, he looks class. He showed he was tough as well last night.

It does seem to me that Boots genuinely just loves to fight and doesn't mind at getting into a firefight. There is an element of performance and theatre to the art of pugilism for him.

I think what separates the criticism against him as opposed to the criticism against Haney & Stevenson is that the latter two really are truly purely boxers - Boots is clearly a boxer-puncher. I think his critics that are operating in good faith want him to be more responsible defensively as that's where he can most meaningfully improve within his arsenal. Not necessarily become more like Haney or Stevenson or a bike rider in general, but something more akin to Crawford or Bivol or Usyk who just have that little extra layer of slipperiness in their game.

I actually think Stevenson could learn a lot from Ennis to become a more robust fighter himself, there's a good foundation in there somewhere as evidenced by his fight with Teo.

Loma is a very aggressive defensive master who blends beautiful offence and defence seamlessly whist applying constant pressure and aggression and he was doing so in what would be bare minimum his 7th weight division had he turned pro at the same age Super Boots did and a division he was tiny for so it's not comparable

But whilst Super Boots is very aggressive and a lot of fun to watch, he gets hit a lot and I think most fans, including myself, believe it's something which is within his control and something he can fix by just not being so reckless and he would only have to modify his style a little not change it. He's never going to be a defensive master but he can be more defensively responsible

I personally love his style but by the same token I see the inherent risk in it when he fights elite big punchers and how it could be his undoing

His style is certainly a welcome change of pace from what the American school of boxing in the post Floyd era has had to offer that's forsure. Crawford is a great blueprint to follow for Ennis.

His defensive flaws and penchant for exchanging make him exciting and must watch. I'll always tune into his fights. It's the reason why I don't think he'll ever reach the P4P pinnacle, but who cares - not very many do. His style is made for memorable fights and fun knockouts.

Yeah I do find it strange how Boots is overly criticized for getting hit more even though it’s known that he’s not a defensive fighter at all. Yet people are also quick to hate on Bivol, Haney and Shakur because they’re more risk averse.

Sure Boots could be more defensively responsible but he’s a Philly fighter through and through. He reminds me of Meldrick Taylor where he chooses to fight rather than box which made him fun to watch. He’s certainly not unstoppable and I can see someone beating him at some point. Just be thankful that Boots is actually an exciting American fighter who tries to knock his opponents out rather than just winning on points and avoid getting hit. He puts on a show and finishes it in style every time he fights. I always look forward to seeing him fight.

The YDKSAB crowd ride the dick of defensive fighters, while bashing guys who get hit too much. Complaining about guys who fight stupid, take too many risks and bail themselves out with their power! While screaming at the top of their lungs about skills, skills, skills pay the bills! Now all of a sudden conveniently overlook all of those flaws, and praise overrated face first sluggers like Jaron Ennis. Door swings both ways!

The glaring hypocrisy of his supporters is one of the primary reasons many want to see him fail. Because the same ones hyping him, are the ones that's relentlessly bashed more skilled fighters like Inoue and Golovkin over the years. While everyone were falling all over themselves last night in a vat of precum. I happened to see something you cannot unsee. Jaron Ennis is the next Jarrett Hurd.

I point it out but I wouldn't say I complain about it. Just detecting a flaw. He's very entertaining.

I really don't like arguing the corner for a shitbag and drug cheat like Luis Nery, but he was the WBC and Ring champ at bantamweight and the WBC super bantam champ, with a 77% KO ratio, who has Xander beat to suggest he's better than prime Nery or elite at 154? The first Yamanaka win on the road in Japan alone puts him on a much higher and more proven level than Zayas.

Xander had a good 60 seconds in round 3, and other than that, he was completely out of his depth, and there's nothing in this fight or his previous fights to suggest he could do any better against Fundora or Ortiz. I give Boots credit for moving up and taking on an undefeated champion, but Zayas is extremely green, does not move his head, and does not punch hard at 154. I picked Boots to win by KO before the fight, but Zayas is an easy night's work for Fundora or Ortiz, as well.

Despite Xander's 56% KO ratio, Boots was in a pretty rough state in round 3, much worse than Crawford or Inoue have ever been. Hopefully, Boots learns from it because that fight would've been over against a better fighter with better power.

I pointed this out, post fight yesterday. As far as I'm concerned, he's been the next big thing for at least a couple of years. Inactivity and perhaps not being in with a huge name has delayed this. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't to some, like every fighter. I'm usually a pro eastern block fan myself but I recognise game when I see it. Usyk and Inoue have seen there best days. Ennis should be the next face of boxing. Contrary to what a few are saying, being involved in exciting fights will increase his popularity 10 fold and won't effect his p4p standing, it will probably enhance it. Fighters like Inoue and Golovkin made their names mainly due to insane power. Ennis has more ability and skill.
