Greatest middleweights of all time

Picking Hearns over Monzon is madness. Monzon would grind Hearns down and stop him.

 

I suppose there is no real way to prove it on paper but Hagler for me. Iron chinned, power, ambidextrous skills...

 

So a guy a who went 3-2 at middleweight is going to beat a champion who didn't lose in 81 straight fights.

Monzon beats Hagler. I deeply admire both as fighters, and Monzon's style wasnt as electrifying as Marvin's, but Monzon was more effective.

Hagler, love him to death, but he had problems with an old Duran at 160.

I cant see Monzon struggling with the middleweight version of Duran.

Monzon's style and length would very problematic for Marvin.

 

Hagler and Monzon will always be a toss up for me.

 

I'm scared to even look at his entries...

 

Monzon is the fighter that a lot of people think GGG is. Golovkin was amazing and would not have been out of his depth against any of the greats, but from a stylistic matchup, Monzon is a total nightmare for the top 10 ATGs at 160. He'd have beaten Hearns pretty easily at 160, but Hearns isn't in the conversation as a great at 160 for me; 147 and 154 are a different story.

Tommy's power would be neutralized because of Monzon's iron chin, which is on par with Hagler and Golovkin. Technically, Monzon had everything Hearns had in his arsenal and more; there's no way Hearns beats him at middleweight. No idea how he got to that conclusion.

Shotgun would have outboxed Golovkin, it'd be a hell of a fight, though. I also think he'd have beaten Robinson at 160, and he'd have forced Hopkins to fight his fight. The Hagler that beat Mugabe I think is a 55/45 favorite against Monzon. Hagler, Monzon and Robinson are my top 3, I know Greb would also be in there but I'd feel disingenuous rating him so highly when I've watched so much footage of the others and none of Greb.

I wouldn't have Canelo anywhere near this bracket. Not sure what criteria he's used to consider Canelo a great at 160, he should've lost to a 35 year old Golovkin, easily could have got the wrong decision against Lara, and has a 160 resume padded with blown up welterweights and light middleweights like Liam Smith, Khan and Kirkland. 168 he's got a much stronger case.

 

I agree with everything except Hagler from Mugabi fight.

That was not peak Marvin, he way to easy to hit, so much slower than his prime. This was the fight that convinced Leonard to comeback and it turns out he was right.

Hagler had the chin, skills, power to give beat any top 10 middleweight except I think Monzon. His wins over Hamsho,Sibson,Hearns and Minter were top tier.

Monzon over 15 is damn difficult to outpoint (neither Monzon or Hagler is getting stopped), Marvin is hell of boxer but struggled with Leonard,Willie Monroe I Sugar Ray Seales in 1st two fights and especially the 2nd, last few rounds with Antuofermo I and Duran.

Would be a terrific fight, close for 10 rounds before Monzon´s strategic brain takes controls and takes a close but clear decision over Hagler.

 

Everybody always talking about the greatest and the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth greatest but how come and why come nobody wanna talk about the eleventeenth greatest of every division?

 

Holman Williams is my #11 all time at MW. He has the deepest win resume of all my divisional all time 11's.

Sammy Mandell (LW) is another brilliant all time #11, imo.
