Let's get it out there--by their own rules, Gassiev is the WBA world champion

I have seen a lot of posts wondering if Gassiev is going to be "elevated" to full champion, and indeed, I just saw one from Gassiev himself. So yes, no one knows, because the WBA are a bunch of crooks who treat their own rules like loose guidelines.

But make no mistake, by their own written rules and customs, Gassiev is now the champion. The "super" championship comes about when a fighter unifies a WBA title with one from another major organization. It is like a quark in string theory--it only exists in relation to other particles.

You're right, he should be champion and it may be revealed soon

But let me get this straight, you made this whole post because he isn't ? And you're saying he is ?

It is unclear. I just saw something somewhere from Murat himself wondering if it will go down that way. I'll try to find it again.

I would be very surprised if the WBA did not elevate him, they have a history of elevating Regular champions when the "Super" champion vacates - I believe Rolly, Tank, and others benefitted from this in the past

He beat Pulev, who was a gold medallist back in the 1980 Moscow olympics.
    So he definitely earned it.
But even if he doesn't get the belt, in the eyes of the fans he is certainly a world champion.

I can't think of a more worthy world champion. Makes Lennox Lewis look like a mug.

Gassiev has certainly earned it. He has beaten better opponents than useless guys like Kabayel and Parker.

    Well done champ.

I guess their own champion doesn't know the rules.

As you suggest, they don't need to elevate him or even announce it. By their own guidelines, he is already their top guy. No one can be above him. I think it was a created for Lennox Lewis when he unified, so he could avoid mandatory obligations.

So, yeah as you say, Gassiev can't become a WBA super champion by beating Yoka. He will have to settle with being a plain old regular champion.

Fury, Joshua and Dubois all got title rematches with Usyk but Gassiev was the only one that Usyk made sure to steer well clear off when it came to title rematches.

Lewis was stripped by the WBA, never held the Regular belt.

I thought he was the "PDS" or "Please Don't Sue" champion. The PDS belt is being phased out I thought?

You have this completely backwards. He invited half the division, including Itauma, to fight him for title, as I documented in real time. It just is not his fault that no one stepped up to claim the fight but Tony Yoka.

He is the champ, and make no mistake about it, he earned it. Both Itauma and Hrgovic turned down a title shot to fight each other for nothing...that should tell you all you need to know.
