Lee Selby wins bareknuckle debut (VIDEO)

I know nobody knows but how much would he got paid for that ? 5k ? 10k ? 2k ? It must be peanuts for a former world champion who wasn't a big draw in his original career.

 

Think his brother has crossed over to bareknuckle as well.

Andrew was arguably the more talented of the two, but Lee was the one who kept it together and had the career. There was a good BBC documentary on Lee a few years back, not the easiest of backgrounds for those lads.

Even though he outclassed his opponent last night, he’s still taking damage from people who would never have laid a fist on him in boxing.

 

BKB have certainly signed Andrew also.

Enzo Maccarinelli has been offered 250k to fight by them, read that a few places.

Victor Ortiz has signed for them also and is fighting soon, Gamboa is also now signed. There is certainly a trend for veteran boxers as we have seen Frankie Gavin have a disaster of a fight and James Degale also winning the one fight he had.

EDIT- Alfredo Angulo is also another signing!

Yup, seems to be the trend now.

Ex-pros probably see it as easy money, or at least the only quick money openly available to them. Problem is most of the ones signing up were already taking more and more damage when they left boxing, usually off the back of stoppage losses or getting bashed up, albeit at a much higher standard than BKB.

It is what it is, but I always think back to Paulie. Years ago I watched him take a sustained beating in going the distance with a prime Cotto, in what was an incredibly brave performance, but it was a brutal beatdown for him.

Then years later Tyler Goodjohn does a similar amount of damage to him in a five round bare-knuckle fight which Paulie won. Peak Paulie isn’t using Goodjohn as a sparring partner, never mind sustaining the damage he did.

If some of these lads weren’t already a dead cert for CTE after boxing, BKB will make sure it’s locked in.

 

Nobody needs to see Enzo back in any kind of ring let alone a bareknuckle one. Hope he has the sense to swerve it

 

Got stopped as he had a cut eyelid deep, doctors advice, was a huge upset fight ended very quickly.

 

Selby said they made 3 orders before he said yes so I'd imagine it's a decent chunk of change.

 

Looks to me like the bkb fighters are roided up while the boxers turn up expecting an easy night most of the time. They need to get wise and get on the gear also.

 

It’s not just that mate.

The stuff that works really well in BKB, especially in and around clinches, initiating the clinch, grabbing hands and roughing people up inside, is mostly illegal in boxing or gets shut down by the referee.

Even Darren Till nearly got wiped out in bare knuckle because the guy gripped his lead hand, turned it and came over with a hook. That **** is illegal in boxing, so most pro boxers have it so deeply ingrained not to expect it. And if MMA guys are vulnerable to it, boxers have little chance of adapting in the short term.

Eventually the better boxers will figure it out, like Trout has, and just blast through them, roided up or not. But plenty are turning up thinking it’s a walk in the park, or the equivalent of a sparring session, and getting a very quick reminder it isn’t.

 

Joe Cordinia recently had a bare knuckle win as well.

EDIT: Good form from Joe with the hook, and very convenient some random just happened to be stood there filming. Almost looks like he walked straight onto a set.
