Ezzard Charles vs Ron Lyle

Charles makes him look foolish.

 

I'm tentatively picking Charles by decision.

 

Not sure about that,Lyle gave Ali a decent scrap.

 

How are we all feeling about Charles' overall punching power VS Ali's?

 

I saw Quarry outbox and stagger the undefeated Lyle - Charles could box but also fight and punch inside and outside. While Lyle could hurt something he could hit, he was not an explosive puncher. Charles could stop Lyle, or coast to a UD after keeping Lyle honest with some power shots.

 

Charles weighing175lbs, put away the aging but still dangerous Elmer Ray,and stopped Joe Baksi,I doubt he hit harder than Ali, but he may have hit more frequently and precisely.

 

A very plausible scenario,imo.

 

Best punch for best punch, are they more same league, despite poundage difference or would you say Charles is still less strong, just more explosive?

 

Charles should get a decision, but Lyle s a live danger man.

 

Peak of Charles should comfortably outbox him, he’s on another level, although Lyle has more than enough power to punish him if he switches off.

 

Oh good grief, Ali was just farting around in that fight and when he got serious he beat the merde out of Lyle and it didn’t take him long. Lyle has been put on a pedestal for 51 years because “he was leading Ali on points” but there was zero way he was winning that fight.

 

Lyle almost put Foreman away, Charles cannot grind it out like he did vs Marciano without stoppage due to a 3 kd rule or outright getting ktfo

He will be able to survive brief inside brawling moments, but will have to rely on his slickness and boxing, basically imagine cruiser Holyfield fighting like Tyson exploiting the midrange closing in and this is how Charles will rack up the points gap

 

If Jimmy Young could outbox Lyle, Charles could have done it as well.

 

Charles's chin is too fallible to win this fight.
