Let's get it out there--by their own rules, Gassiev is the WBA world champion

Oh come on it's not a real title. Usyk held the only ones that mattered.

 

Pulev was 45 years old. He had lost a decision to Derek Chisora 3 1/2 years earlier and had been fighting only once a year against low level opposition. Also, remember that this Pulev win came just three fights after Gassiev's embarrassing loss to Wallin, where his supposed "iron jaw" was badly shaken by a jab. If you make a 41-year-old, war-worn Chisora look like a prime Foreman in terms of pressure, then, in the eyes of many fans, you're nothing more than a paper champion waiting to lose your belt. In my opinion, Gassiev would be one of the weakest heavyweight champions ever. Outside of Charles Martin, he would have a strong case for being the worst.

 

So you predicted Usyk would drop all the belts? The secondary belts still hold no meaning

Gassiev as their HW champ isn't going to bring many sanctioning fees there way

Fair play to him but that's a weak representation of the WBA

It's crazy how a fighter without a single good win at HW can be a world champ

 

If the super title is vacant then how is gassiev the primary WBA heavyweight champion ? There should be no higher position than being the WBA world champion, it sounds like Gassiev got the regular belt but he already had it. This is confusing

 

Cause the (Super) title is for the unified champions. If you hold only one belt, you are "just" a WBA champion, but you're still a major title holder.

 

This is a mess, since Gassiev position didn't actually change like Kabayels or Rolly with his singular WBA title, Gaasiev still has the regular belt. Think Murat should at least fight the closer to prime Yoka for the title, because 44 yr old Pulev is garbage (yoka still sucks)

 

Gassiev sucks.

 

Way back in 2016, Jezzrel Corrales upset the then WBA Super-Champion at 130 lbs, Takashi Uchiyama. Corrales then in his third title defense missed weight by 4lbs, meaning that the belt was vacant and only his opponent, Alberto Machado, could win it. And Alberto Machado did indeed win, but not the Super-Champion belt, oh no, he got the regular belt.
The now vacant Super-Champion belt was on the line 6 months later in the Tank Davis vs Jesus Cuellar fight, a fight for which Cuellar moved up in weight, coming off of a loss to Abner Mares.

The point is that the WBA don't care about their own rules, because they have written them to be as vague and as malleable as possible.

Their entire rules document is written like this, meaning they can do whatever they want. The WBC has theirs worded similarly, meaning they can bend their rules as they please.
