How do you feel about Toney vs McCallum II's decision?

Do you have round by round scoring because I thought it was a pretty clear win for Toney while the second one was much closer

 

Really? That’s interesting because I’ve seen YouTube videos where they dissect the fight …and they call it a brilliant performance by Toney

Thought at the time that McCallum should have gotten the decision, close, but that he had gotten the short end of the stick. I remember talking about the fight the next day with my dad, and he wasn't so sure McCallum won it.

The first two were close, competitive fights. Many thought Toney got robbed the first time, but when I watched it, I thought McCallum won it.
The only definitive fight was the third but by then McCallum was at the end of the trail.

 

Are you asking about the 1st or 2nd fight? I was only really discussing the 2nd fight in my post.

Just rewatched the fight because of this thread and here's how I scored it pretty much even fight that Toney won because of the point deduction but a lot of really close rounds that could have gone either way but McCallum would have to win 7 rounds to get the decision and I really don't see him winning that many.

Pretty sure I gave both to Toney on damage, those were his baptisms those fights. JT is the most incredible fighter we’ve had since probably the 60s-70s, before him it was Napoles, Eder and Griffith that were that skilled off the top of my head, I don’t think Toney faced anyone as skilled as MM after those bouts, small wonder he says he’s the only fighter he respects.

 

James Toney deserved the decision in the first fight and thought the second fight was a draw on first viewing. Having recently re-watched the 2nd fight I must say McCallum really got done dirty in that fight. Not only did he make the proper adjustment to avoid getting hit consistently by Toney's right hand but he out landed Toney by 100 punches and fought a brilliant performance. You'd think that the fighter with the higher workrate for the majority of the fight would get the decision but it seemed that the judges were more enamored with Toney's occasional fluries and hard counters but for the most part he looked frustrated. The point deduction from McCallum was also BS as well.

 

I haven’t seen it in years, but I know I had it for McCallum by one point and had no problem with the decision. There’s no way I would’ve had a problem with any decision, whether it went to Toney, McCallum, or another draw.

I thought the scores should’ve been closer though as it was a very close fight

 

I've scored it at least three times and always have McCallum nipping the fight through activity. Great display of skill from both sides.

 

Last time I watched these was all 3 in a row. At the time I felt Toney nicked the first 2 and took the 3rd clean. Looks like I'll have to revisit the first 2 based on these posts. All 3 are excellent.
Watching these is like getting your Doctorate in boxing skills. Outstanding

 

Watching all three fights in a row is definitely the way to go. McCallum was 35 and already great going into the first fight. Toney literally turns into a great fighter in this series and the third fight was essentially McCallum passing the torch.

Too me, this is the best trilogy of technical boxing in the history of the sport.

 

When it comes to great boxing series fought at a high level there’s very few trilogies that matches the technical brilliance as this one. Only other trilogy of technical boxing that comes close is Morales vs Barrera, Chocolatito vs Estrada, Roman vs Laciar.
