How do you feel about Toney vs McCallum II's decision?

After having watched all 3 fights in a row I personally think Toney looked his absolute best against McCallum in their first fight. Not only did he land more big power shots often he had hurt McCallum more times, even close to dropping him at one point. Second fight Toney seemed to allow McCallum to consistently pepper him with jabs, dictate the pace, and outwork him while he would constantly wait for counter opportunities and then fight in spurts. Third fight Toney won without a doubt but McCallum’s age also played a factor. It wasn’t Toney’s strongest performance quite honestly but this was the fight where he won the most rounds due to activity and he did more than enough to secure a win against the 40 year old veteran.

 

Agree 100% Real old school master mechanics. The level of skill on display here is of the absolute highest caliber

 

I had the same score. Toney landed the more eye catching shots. Mc Callum was busier but his punches had no power in this fight.

 

Basically how I saw it. McCallum just pecked and pecked. His punches had nothing on them. Toney fought only sixty seconds a round and still probably did more damage.

I've never really been able to get worked up about this fight either way. Who cares about the deserving winner when both performances were so uninspiring? McCallum looked like he had nothing left but his brains (which makes his LHW comeback win against Harding even more impressive), and Toney had one of the low-effort outings he became notorious for. A fight can be great even if neither participant is at their best, but this one had none of the intensity of their first bout, which is rightly remembered as a classic.

Reactions to this fight at the time were disappointed. Not really sure what's brought on the revisionism that it's some kind of technical masterpiece. Watch McCallum-Kalambay II instead.

 

I nipped it for McCallum. The poll shows 8 apiece which sows it was a reasonably close fight which could have gone either way according to the scorers preference.
