How about Marciano ? His case is a bit weird, but I think there's an argument to be made. I've said before that he's basically a small Heavyweight who beat the 2 greatest Light Heavyweights of all time when they were still good and were basically the same size as him. Plus he did beat the actual 200+ HW champ of the world who's usually ranked around the top 20 HWs or thereabouts, and retired undefeated.

Nothing too crazy when speaking strictly at HW, but pound for pound he gets a big boost imo.

I mean if we're talking about pound for pound boosts then does this become a Marciano or Wilde debate? That might be the first time that's ever been discussed.

I don't think the Marciano case is completely out of the question but I do think the length of his title reign is probably what prevents him from being ranked higher than someone like Louis or Hagler.

Well unfortunately for The Rock, I think he does lose the Louis and Wilde debate. Louis has almost as many fights at the world level as Rocky has fights in his career, and Wilde KO'd a world class Featherweight while he himself weighed 105 lbs, which is a nasty P4P achievement. Though I've controversially stated that I'd have Marciano over Hagler P4P before.

You think he might be top 5 for this ?

I would be interested in seeing how Wilde's wins over Pal Moore and Joe Lynch compare to Marciano's wins over Charles and Moore. I don't think I'm knowledgeable enough to really have an argument for either side there. Without thinking that much or researching it, I'd might favor The Pal Moore and Lynch wins as I think they were probably closer to their prime although it seems they were both controversial decisions which we can't judge due to the lack of film. There's also the obvious fact that Moore and Charles are way greater p4p than Lynch and Pal Moore. It's tough and you would need to be a Marciano expert and a late 1910s bantamweight expert and the venn diagram of that is probably very small.

Did you make that Marciano over Hagler take a thread? That seems interesting. To be honest when it comes to p4p I just consider Ali and Louis in terms of heavyweights because I never really considered the size difference in the heavyweight division as a pound for pound feat although it technically is, I might need to rethink that.

I think he's probably just outside the top 5? I think the top 5 in no order is probably Ali, Louis, Wilde, Hagler, Monzon*. I would say Marciano when you count the p4p aspect of the size difference he overcame is probably the clear pick for the sixth best. It breaks my heart to put Marciano over Canto but it's most likely the right call, doesn't mean I'm happy about it.

*This top 5 comes with the asterisk that I swear I'm forgetting someone but no one has pointed out who yet so maybe I'm not.

Lennox Lewis did beat every man he faced. And he faced real, heavyweight, virile, young men for a long, long time.

To be completely up front with you, I was not factoring virility into the equation. That might have been my problem.

Yeah that sounds about right. I'd have Moore and Charles over Lynch and Pal Moore, personally. I think the difference in class is just way too great. Plus Moore was like 55-1-2 or something like that the past 6 years, which is insane. Super underrated win imo, especially P4P. Moore seemed not to age until Marciano got to him, and the mfer still went on to fight for almost a decade more, even if his form was never the same as it was before Rocky.

I think Wilde's win over Joe Conn is just bananas though. People on general lose their **** at Usyk overcoming 20 lbs disadvantages when he's a 220+ fighter. Wilde was under the modern Straweight/Mininumweight/Embryoweight/Whateverweight when he beat one of the best Featherweights in the world, and it was a total beatdown. It's like an automatic 50 spot jump in the P4P queue, especially when you consider how hard a historical jump Featherweight has been to former Flyweights and even Bantamweights. Wilde doing what he did is unreal.

And yeah I did make a thread about it. Short version of it is, both guys' best wins are over men coming up a division, but Marciano's guys are better. I'd also have Walcott as a better singular win than any natural MW Hagler beat like Antuofermo and Minter. And I don't think Hagler's depth consists of fighters good enough to overcome the gap.

Look at Louis against Marciano. That is not virility.

    Pongsaklek Wonjongkam- Flyweight
    Kostya Tszyu- Junior Welterweight
you could say Aaron Pryor but he had some comeback fights above 140 after he lost the title.

I think if we were to expand this out into a top 10 these would all be good contenders for it.
