Conn had a chin,ko'd twice in75 fights,both times by Louis,14 of those 75 were heavyweights.

I do tend to agree with Dynamicpuncher that Jones will be a problem for Louis until he isn't. The 'he isn't' part may come really fast when it does.

 

The heavies that hit Conn weren't exactly heavies by modern standards.

Jones Jr. Would be a difficult task for Louis , for about five rds.
Then suddenly he wouldn't be.
As Louis once said " He can run , but he can't hide". And that would sum up this hypothetical fight perfectly..
Jones Jr. Would know it's Joe Louis, and not John Ruiz in the opposite corner.
Thus, that fact would make him even more cautious, and would negate his only chance of winning, and that's catching Louis early.
That would be his downfall....
Louis had the skills , hand speed, and of course power that would make Jones reluctant to let his blistering combinations go.
Eventually, Jones Jr. Would allow Louis to get his range and timing, and the fight would be over from this point.
Jones Jr. Gets tracked down, and viscously koed with in 6 or 7 rds.

 

Louis wasn't exactly fighting huge hitters himself though. Those he did fight weren't very skilled.

If you put a prime Jones up against the guys Louis fought there is a good chance he gets dropped less often than Louis did

I like it. Heavyweights in the 30s simply didnt have proper training. And due to a severe depression, also lacked proper nutrition. The odds of a probable victory by Roy are all in his favor even though his speed was but a fraction of his true speed at 160. Joe simply cannot win, losing to an opponent whose powers know no equal

 

You can say that about the majority of opponents every heavyweight champion faced prior to the middle 60's
