Usyk looked excellent Vs Dubois 2. Did father time really get him over night.

Rico was just that strong and awkward. Usyk isn't one to take people lightly, imo

Not possible for a top level boxer to fight someone like Rico or Nnganou and not underestimate them and the task at hand.

I think pro boxing underestimates these other combat sports competitors. Pro boxers have been praised as the world's premier fighters for over 100 years and the realisation that some of these other dudes are as good if not better fighters than them hasn't sunk in yet.

 

I think Dubious is a quitter and if he was tougher he might have been more trouble to old Usyk in later rounds when Usyk slows down a bit, so he wasn't able to expose Usyk getting older.

The fact Usyk just dropped all the belts means he knows he has gotten old. That's basically proof of it. He was rolling the dice and then almost paid the price. Now he wants to pick and choose even more.

But Wilder is still a risky fight now and I don't think it's worth it. Wilder has zero to lose in this fight and can just come out swinging. He's already lost to worse fighters so what does it matter if he loses to Usyk as big underdog. If Usyk gets clipped he destroys his whole legacy and that in itself is unique pressure. So people saying it's an easy fight are not really thinking about the circumstances. He's better off fighting Fury again where if he loses, and I think he actually might, it wouldn't seem that bad as a send off.

Usyk probably got lazy, didn't train as he should and got out of shape.

 

In that 40ish window father time does tend to strike quick. Every single year from that point the list of fighters who've been elite at that age shrinks dramatically. Fighters who are elite at 39,40 are fairly common. Fighters who are elite at 42,43 are unicorns. So the wheels fall off in this window and they fall off fast.

It's part of why someone like Beterbiev's situation is so frustrating.

Wladimir Klitschko had one of his best career performances destroying number 1 rated contender Kubrat Pulev in 2014 when he was 38. Next year, he looked significantly worse during his outings with Jennings and Fury. These things happen when you're around 40.

 

you do make a good point. Wilder has NOTHING to lose here. Doesn’t hurt his resume one bit if he loses to Usyk. So, why not fight balls out, no caution, swinging for the fences? He can still punch, we saw against Chisora.

I doubt Wilder will come out like that. He has some risk-aversion, doesn't want to be embarassed and stopped early by Usyk. He's also 41 and beaten up, less ferocious than he was. Wilder's power isn't there any more if you don't stand right in front of him and let him tee off, plus Chisora was 42. I see Usyk (coming off the Verhoeven near-disaster and now in his final fight) taking Wilder seriously and putting on a good performance.

Usyk has always been confident in this fight, regarding it as easier than Joshua and especially Fury, and Krassyuk at least had the same view. And Usyk has studied Wilder since the 2008 Olympics, whereas Wilder has not thought about Usyk very much over the years as an opponent.
