Boots Ennis vs Oscar Da La Hoya

At 154, Oscar was at the limits of his body, and he looked a little soft and slow. Of course he was older then. Boots at 154 is at a really good weight for him and he’s in his prime. Certainly, pound for pound, at this point in Boots’ career I would take Oscar but at the times in their respective careers they fought at 154. I have to go with Ennis to win the fight.

Oscar smashes Ennis at 147 and 154, I think; he's a horrible matchup for Boots. The way I see it, he's basically a much better version of Xayas with an iron chin (especially at 147) combined with higher volume and far heavier hands. De La Hoya lost to Floyd, but he was years past his prime and still made it highly competitive, so unless we're going to argue that Ennis is on the same level as Mayweather at 147 or 154, any argument that he beats De La Hoya is premature.

Boots does better at 154, and I'd make him a live underdog if he can avoid getting drawn into a firefight, but Ennis has had two fights at 154 and was wobbled heavily by Xander in one of them. I'd love to see it, but Boots is not proven at De La Hoya's level. Oscar was P4P number 1 for 2 years, and he gets underrated on here. He's not unbeatable, he would lose to the ATG fighters at 147 and 154, but Ennis is not one of the greats, far from it, he has an extremely long way to go before he's considered one of the greats.

As exciting as he is, I don't think Crawford beats De La Hoya at 147, and I think the pair of them are a level above Boots.

 

Oskee catches him and stops him in a competitive fight. Boots imo isn’t hurting him enough to get his respect either.

 

Thats a stretch! Has Crawford even beaten a fighter as good as the Mosley and Quartey who Oscar fought? The stylistic match up fsvors Oscar since he.seemed to do well against stock boxers

 

Yeah..... but Ennis is arguably more talented than the fighters Oscar fought in his prime

 

Whitaker, Quartey, Trinidad, Carr, Gonzales, Mosley, Vargas, Ruelas, Hernandez, were excellent boxers and only Quartey hurt him.

Compare that to who Boots has fought in almost 40 fights, to what Oskee has in 40 fights...

 

Oscar got dropped by Victor Ortiz in sparring. Boots would take his chin. Oscar was overrated and lost to Quartey and Sturm.
