So? He has other pathways to the belts with better opponents. Obviously his team decided that he needed a bigger challenge than a guy who was getting outboxes by Pulev and lost to Wallin.
"Gassiev was injured in camp" isn't the great cope you think it is. Boxers are responsible for what happens during training camp, whether that's injuries or not preparing properly. Besides, do you really think an injured Dubois, Kabayel, Hrgovic, Sanchez, or Itauma would lose to someone of Otto Wallin's caliber?
Well I hope someone steps in .... and Joyce is as good a ..... choice () as anyone right now. The fact of the matter is that Gassiev now holds the WBA belt -- and he's got to be ready to start defending it.
To be fair his handlers considered that avenue I highly doubt Itauma cares about that tinpot belt Not many do or did, it's always been a route for boxers that don't see any other way to a shot at a title
Joyce having lost 4 of his past 5 is not really qualified for a world title shot. Kadiru (who is in his prime at age 29) has won 9 in a row and has been steadily improving. Joyce is already scheduled to fight Suslenkov, a very good boxer but small at 6'1" for the heavyweight division and not a big puncher. He should be at cruiserweight. It would not have been fair to choose Joyce simply because he's British.
Which was my point he is a ready made replacement Amazing how in a few days this guy could be WBA world champion
Anyone know how to watch the event? Funny how we can end up with 2 German heavyweights champs after not having one for close to 100 years
Free on YouTube on Saturday. Excellent event - Russian cards are MUCH better than the German cards. This will be a very good undercard fight: Sharabutdin Ataev vs Jose Uzcategui
See I never mentioned anything about him being British You did I mentioned Joyce because it might actually be a decent fight I saw this guy years ago on an AJ undercard and he was pony Looking at his recent clips he still is
