Two tall Super Featherweights but with very different styles. You have the blood and guts warrior against the boxing technician. How do you see this fight going? This content is protected This content is protected
I love them both but I almost always take the technician in these matchups. The late great Hernandez was very tough to beat and only lost to atg's Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya. I thought Azumah Nelson beat him but either way, he was a handful and fought like a true champion. Chico was one hell of a warrior but very hittable and I think Hernandez would take advantage of Chico's lack of defense. RIP to both of these great champions.
I am the same as you and I really enjoyed watching both of them. Genaro was such a class act and a pros pro. And this pains me to say this because I really liked Hernandez but Corrales was successful at the higher level more then Hernandez was and he hit harder. And the biggest thing is Hernandez, who was usually much taller then his opponents is not going to have that advantage in this fight. I think Corrales stops Hernandez in a good fight.
I think Corrales would win and I wouldn’t call him a blood and guts warrior either. His boxing was very technical. I don’t think Hernandez would like being countered by him.
He definitely was more than just a blood and guts banger. I can remember when he was a standout amatuer as a featherweight but trying to outbox guys like Mayweather, Casamayor and Gainer was not the best strategy for a guy like him with that kind of power.
He actually did outbox Casamayor in the second fight, at least enough for an official win, and it worked better than stalking him.
I haven't watched those fights in years but I remember them all being good. Casamayor seemed to always be in really close fights that almost always were split decisions. Off topic but, I think Casamayor is one of the best pure boxers to not be in the hall of fame. Maybe he will get his due someday.
