Perhaps you've heard of the web ? Start with facts ... Benitez , Leonard , Hearns were not lightweights. Watt, Espana , Arguello, Davis, O'Grady, Kenty, Boza were top guys ... Aaron was 20 something and 0 with almost all KO's and none of them wanted him ... months before the Cervantes fight he fought at 132 .. Cervantes was older but a beast and took the fight at 140 .. No one went through Cervantes like Pryor did .. an astonishing win .. Pryor was a force ..

Yes but that is irrelevant to my point which was he moved to 140 from 135 because men were ducking him and none of the fighters your'e discussing, Leonard, Hearns , Benitiez were even discussions till after he won the title and became a marque fighter .. show me any serious or even partial discussion of a Leonard or Hearns fight w Pryor prior top August of 1980 .. there is none .

I think you are CLAERLY quoting the wrong guy here. You initially quoted me saying that JCC was bigger than Pryor, and I said at 140, I didnt think so. THATS IT. Why are you bringing up Hearns and such? I didnt mention anything about how Hearns ??? And by the way, since you are bringing up fights with Leonard, it is WELL documented that Pryor was offered Leonard AND Duran and he turned it down which I clearly explained in my other post as the reason why?. So I really dont know why you are talking to me about other things that I NEVER mentioned. Our only disagreement was who had the bigger frame .. AND THATS IT

LOL !! now you are just being stubborn to argue just for the sake to do it and you already know that Pryor turned down both Leonard and Duran fights. This has been discussed in threads before and well sourced by me and JT and some others , and in my other post here, I clearly explained why because of his contract situation with LaRusa ( did you take the time to read ?, Pryor hired a lawyer and lost out on his chances. ). So why dont you research it YOURSELF instead of being a stubborn arse.

Sugar Ray Leonard offered Aaron Pryor a fight on multiple occasions during the early 1980s, but the matchup never happened due to financial disputes and an untimely injury. Despite persistent public rumors that Leonard ducked Pryor, contracts were actually extended and briefly agreed upon. [1, 2, 3, 4]
    The Initial Offers (1980)
    • The $500,000 Offer: In December 1980, Leonard's camp offered Pryor $500,000 to challenge for the WBC Welterweight Championship.
    • The Rejection: Pryor turned it down because he wanted more money.
    • The $750,000 Increase: Promoters subsequently increased the offer to $750,000.

I've found the oft repeated story of Pryor being ducked out of a title shot at 135 to be a myth. He had a whole ehap of knockouts over almst exclusively nobodies. Recognized names were shot. On top of this boxrec has him weighing 135 or less one single time. Julio Valdez was ranked but I'm not sure how. That's hardly campaigning at lightweight let alone being avoided for a title shot. He did nothing to deserve one. Did some contenders avoid him? Perhaps. At any rate he was still fighting in the 140 pound division.

It's not a myth. You are just are ill informed. No one is saying it was for years . It was for the window of time that when he got a shot at 140 he had the balls to jump at it and did. Fact. BTW, what are ehap knockouts ? Facts only. LOL

A crazy barnburner of a match up but I personally think Pryor might have been able to outpoint Chavez down the stretch. His unorthodox style and nonstop aggression will give Chavez trouble. He’ll be able to land some of his shots on Pryor but it won’t deter him at all which spells trouble for Chavez. If Meldrick Taylor overwhelmed Chavez the first time with his speed and fast combinations then I think Pryor would do the same as well except he wouldn’t allow himself to get stopped. Pryor manages to absorb Chavez’s punches and outworks him via decision in a FOTY type battle.

Those weren't great offers when you consider Duran got 1.5m and 8m for his 2 fights and Hearns got 8m. Pryor was offered 1m for a unification with Mamby in early 1981, which fell through. So no wonder he's turning down less money for a harder fight. Pryor also made 1.6m against Arguello and then 2.25m for their rematch. 750k was a low ball offer on the basis of the above.

I read the claim way back in the day and parroted it on here in my early days. Over time it was challenged and when i dug deeper the claim didn't ring true.

I'm happy to be informed if you know anything i didn't unearth.

Ok, what exact time period would you say it was for? What would you say Pryor achieved in that short space to make it clear he was getting ducked? What contenders did he beat that made him deserve a shot above all other lightweights? What performance led to him being a can't miss must be defended against guy?

Four out of five of Pryors fights immediately prior to his title shot against Cervantes were fought at junior welterweight. The other was fought with Pryor actually weighing in the welterweight category. Of the 24 fights he had before Cervantes boxrec has him weighing 135 pounds or less one single time. Guys like Howard Davis Jr were weighing inside the lightweight limit virtually every time out. Fact.

The phrase read "a whole ehap of knockouts". In my typo two single letters have exchanged places at the front of the word, "e" and "h". Swap them around and it reads "a whole heap of knockouts".

Back in 07 I picked Chavez by a tight UD
I have it the other way around now. Pryor gets badly ripped and underrated here. Say what you will about his flash knock downs and being too open. The man always won. Not even worth mentioning his one loss. Means nothing in my book.
