Power Rocky Speed Rocky Technique Vitali Ring IQ Vitali Chin Vitali Stamina Rocky or even Footwork Vitali Physical strength Vitali Combinations Rocky Accuracy Vitali Defense even (apples/oranges, neither were great) Finishing ability/killer instinct Rocky 6-2-4 advantage Vitali. Vitali should win with moderate to high difficulty, I would guess either by convincing decision 7 rounds to 4-5 with maybe 1 even. Rocky would have his moments keeping things competitive with his wild, swarming style, power, speed, and awkward dipping/rolling defense, but ultimately Vitali would end up being in complete control by round 6 maintaining his preferred range with his lean back, sway, jab, and 1-2 style forcing Rocky to respect his range and strength. If Vitali really steps on the gas and increases his aggression, he'd probably stop Rocky within 7-9 rounds. The problem for Rocky is he would be fighting fire with fire, aggressively coming forward and trying to out-volume the much bigger and stronger volume puncher. This is something some of his supporters simply refuse to acknowledge if Rocky were transported to the future: he would have a much more difficult time trying to crowd and slug men 40-60 lbs lbs heavier with significant advantages in height/reach. Rocky would have close to a 0% chance of knocking out the tall, iron chinned Vitali who would be leaning back, punching back, and clinching to maintain his preferred range. And I can't see Rocky out boxing or outworking Vitali because getting close enough to apply pressure would be a monumentally painful and difficult task as Vitali had pretty damn good stamina himself and would be throwing dozens of shots per round.
He never trained them any more than he trained McCallum and those he trained let him go after brief spells. You already know what I think of Turner's many controversial statements.
So Vitali missing a punch and injuring his shoulder is a fluke (against a fighter who has done that to others before), but Marciano cutting his nose isn't a fluke?
I don't care if this guy was a professional trainer - he doesn't know s***. I'd rather go with Emmanuel's saying - a good big guy beats a good small guy. That's what typically happens - not all the time of course, but most of the time.
Perhaps because he fought NE club fighters for 80% of his career before moving on to pensioners, lightheavies and white dopes. 98% of his opponents wouldn't qualify as a sparring partner for Vitali.
Seamus, if you don't continue to engage in my foolishness, my night is pretty much ruined. Is that really what you want?
Vitali could literally put his hand on Rockys head from a foot away, like im sorry but that matters especially in a sport where distance is so outrageously important. Rocky will also have to punch up like a foot
I'm much bigger than Byrd. I am much stronger than Byrd. Could I have beaten Vitali, too? Marciano didn't beat anyone who was both as young and as skilled as Byrd. Rocky didn't have anywhere near the defense, speed or balance that Byrd possessed. And Vitali wasn't beaten but succumbed to an existing injury that was exacerbated. It was a once in 3 careers issue, a lightning bolt outcome. Yes, if Marciano prayed for Vitali to get a shoulder injury and God Almighty answered his prayers before Marciano got KTFO, then he would win. That seems to be a pretty big ask.
Sure, I don't see why not. He wasn't that good. Why keep bringing up size if when a modern example of a smaller heavyweight beating a huge one is immediately written off? He beat more skilled than Byrd who were better than Byrd, even though they were older. You're obsession with the age of his opponents is weird when you're obviously smart enough to see that A) the number matters less than the results and B) that on the film of the fights they look great. Vitali was near even, with 9 minutes left against a man he outweighed by nearly 50lbs, who'd stepped in on a week's notice and he quit coz his shoulder hurt. Write that loss off however you want but it's certainly a legit loss and it's to a tiny heavyweight.
