I see this has been bumped. Not sure if I’ve responded to this already, but Louis wins very early, as soon as he lets his hands go.

Let's just be honest here this is only being discussed because a guy playing a character (Melankomas) is trolling. He doesn't actually believe what he says, id rather have Mendoza back on the site because in his own demented way he actually believed what he said despite never admitting when he was factually proven wrong. Why are trolls allowed on this forum?

Corbett might be the worst looking atg on film and he doesn't even have the stunning atg resume to make up for it like others do.

Corbett can run but he can’t hide however, if he at least hides his buttocks in duly modest trunks for this match I’m sure the viewing audience would be highly appreciative of that particular effort thereby securing him a “moral” victory of sorts.

Take a look at Corbett squaring off with Jeffries here - https://www.thefightcity.com/gentleman-jim-speaks/ - Corbett is naked, aside from the belt he is wearing around his waist.

    Lol!

Yes, in the still photo, the skimpy attire does present as barely more than a black belt or cummerbund.

Can't imagine how a cup protector, or anything else for that matter, manage to fit in there.

No wonder Gentlemen Jim was vulnerable to cagey pro's who knew their way around the ring.

This is a Grade A example of not all eras of boxing being equal.

Canelo beats Corbett, let alone Joe Louis lmao.

    Sincere apologies, Mike.

I knew I'd crossed the line when my Mum used my Sunday name.

Haha! Just as well that Jas didn’t try to secret a railway spike. That would’ve likely backfired nastily.

For due contrast, the old Police Gazettes of the era had their own, shall we say, sturdily built “Page 3 girls” posing “provocatively” but even they were still covered from neck to knee.

Maybe Jas aspired to make it onto page 3 one day himself, who knows?

Such disrespect for "The Mighty Cheek" nowadays. Have you guys seen the photos of him fighting elephants or are those only in my family's collection?

In 1937, 179-pound Bob Pastor went 10 rounds with Louis with a similar style to Corbett, stick and move a lot. 183-pound Pastor lasted 11 rounds in the 1939 rematch. So can a guy last rounds with Louis by moving a lot, as Pastor did? Yes. If Corbett can last 61 rounds with Peter Jackson, who was the same size as Louis, don't be shocked if Corbett's style could be a pain in Louis' rear. That said, of course Louis would be the favorite to win, and likely by KO at some point. But this isn't the early blow-out that folks think it would be, simply because Corbett would not allow it to be. He'd use all his speed, cleverness, awkwardness, feinting, movement, and even clinching to last rounds, and try to sneak in a shot or quick combo here and there. He did that to everyone he fought, including Jackson, Sullivan, Fitzsimmons, Jeffries, and Sharkey. No one ever said he was easy to beat. They all had to earn it over time.
