Moorer. By KO. But, Tommy does have a chance to catch Moorer early and do likewise. Moorer would need to be very careful those first couple of rounds. After that, his skills take over and he stops Morrison.
Morrison would make it exciting and could absolutely score a early ko , I'd give him a great chance because of his power. But overall , Moorer was the more rounded heavyweight and would be favoured. 60/40 for Moorer imo.
The one that took the initiative and landed something substantial first. Especially when considering both fighters were below average defensively and ability to absorb hard punches. Moorer was much more polished and the better all around boxer. However Morrison's aggression, devastating power , especially with the left vhook ( Top ten maybe top five in history as far as power AND speed is considered. ) I'm going to lean to Morrison in this one. His aggression, speed, and power being the key difference. This one is the poster child for who'd be the most aggressive. That usually was Tommy Morrison.....
Yeah this is how I see it. Another factor to think about is Moorer being a southpaw. Tommy looked awful against southpaw Yuri Vaulin before getting that left hook in and landing those body shots. Joe Hipp gave Tommy all sorts of problems, including a broken jaw, before Morrison pulled off one of the gutsiest wins I’ve seen. Moorer was better than those guys. I would pick him to stop Morrison, possibly needing to rise from the canvas to do so.
I really don't even believe that Tommy has a puncher's chance here really, Moorer endured punishment from guys like Cooper (more aggressive, stronger) and made it through just fine. And also as was said above with Moorer just being massively more skilled + fighting southpaw.
Moorer fought a little different than most southpaws because he is naturally right handed and his right hand was his best weapon. So he moved his left a lot because it opened up avenues for his jab. Against Botha it helped his set up right hook counters to botha's right hand. Against Foreman it cost him and he got caught with a right hand but Foreman threw a very short, straight right hand on that occasion and Both looped his and squared up after he threw it. Morrison was known for his left hook and Moorer would be circling away from that punch. I think that Moorer would land his jab consistently, and his right hook.
