Battle of two all time great boxing scientists... 15 rds. Almost to tough to pick. My heart says Benitez, an defensive wizard who was probably at his best at 140. But, would he be busy enough against Sweet Pea ? Who was a very fast and effecient fighter. Great hand speed and he could dig to that body, would his southpaw stance and speed be to much for Benitez ? I will take Benitez by a lose 15 rd split decision... I think he would lay back, counter punch of the ropes, and mix in enough right leads (which he had a great one) and body work to squeak it out. That Benitez that upset `Kid Pambele `...
whitaker on points , benitez was a great great fighter but he is coming up against one of the best ever in whitaker. whitaker has everything except power whitaker by 4-5 rounds
Tough one. One thing to note: In some of Benitez' biggest fights (albeit against ATG's) he comes up short. Whitaker doesn't. All I can say is I'd be rooting for Whitaker and I'd also put money on him in this one.
Whitaker because he was at his very best at this weight. He was more mature as a fighter at 140 than Benitez. At the higher weight I like Benitez to win but not at 140.
Love both but Wilfred isn’t physically mature at 140 and wasn’t nearly as developed offensively as he would become at 147 and 154, the latter of which was probably his best weight. Pernell was peak at 140 and while this is a chess match of two defensive whizzes, Sweet Pea’s arsenal is better at this weight. He edges it in a tactical bout.
