Named the Fight of the Year of 2001. A classic ESPN Friday Night Fights slugfest between two scrappy gatekeepers / journeyman Micky Ward and Emanuel Augustus. This was the fight that put both Ward and Augustus on notice that made them both cult favorite fighters. Ward would end up being involved in another FOTY one year later against Arturo Gatti.

What a classic fight! I haven't watched in years but at the time, I though Augustus won. Man, I really miss that era of Friday Night fights. The matchmaking was the best!

I might be one of the the few people that actually prefers this fight over any of the Gatti vs Ward fights. Hell I would even say that Gatti's fights with Ivan Robinson were more compelling than his fights with Ward.

This is far from unreasonable. I often think many huge Gatti/Ward fans have not actually seen this fight too.

Even a drunken master is taking a chance trying to outdrink (or outfight) an Irishman.

Hell no. Round 9 alone in the Gatti vs Ward fight was absolutely insane.

I remember watching this live in a dive bar in Portland, Oregon.

It was a few weeks ago if memory serves.
