Greater/Better fighter: Takashi Uchiyama or Shinsuke Yamanaka

    Two terrific Japanese world champions who fought around the same time and were long reigning title holders, with Uchiyama having 11 defenses and Yamanaka having 12 defenses. Both known for their dynamite punching power and exciting fighting style. They would both be beaten twice by the same fighter before deciding to hang up the gloves.

    Based on level of opposition during their title defenses and H2H ability who would you say was the greater/better fighter overall?

    I think Yamanaka's level of opposition is a bit higher and that's what tips the edge for me. Close, though.

    I kinda think that Uchiyama was a better fighter from a technical standpoint, but Yamanaka's resume is simply much deeper than Uchiyama's. Salgado, Miura, Jorge Solis, and even Jomthong are all solid wins, but Yamanaka's wins over Anselmo Moreno, Darchinyan, Liborio Solis, Ryosuke Iwasa, Malcolm Tunacao, Tomas Rojas, and Suriyan Sor Rungvisai are just a lot more impressive when taken as a whole. If anything, Yamanaka is probably a bit underrated these days in terms of being an ATG bantamweight.
