Roland LaStarza: In Marciano's Shadow

The fight that proves his grit and great boxing ability to me was the Layne fight. It’s hard to look like a good boxer against Marciano. Against Layne you really see why he belonged in the upper echelon. Was he an ATG contender? No but he was a damn good fighter

 

LaStarza looks good on film.

 

So does Little Puck, but that doesn't mean she's the stuff champeens are made outta.

 

He certainly did not lack courage.

 

As a contender, he was a flash in the pan.

He was a #1 Ring Magazine contender, and perhaps among the weaker ones, in the history of their rankings.

However I don't have any problem with him being given that ranking.

 

4th tier heavy at best. The fact that he caused a ripple in his era says much more of the era than him.

His best work was in the Batman TV series.
