How popular and mainstream Paulie Malinaggi could have become

Yeah that's really what it comes down to. I think this was his main bottle neck, he never really had any power. People love to see knockouts, as a hardcore fan I don't mind a good boxing match at all, often times i prefer it. But a mainstream fan just likes to see guys that blow each other up... Paulie has a stable chin and no bombs in his fists, so fans looking for fireworks went elsewhere.

I think Paulie will become more famous after he retires. He's bound to be commentating for years to come as he's excellent at it.

 

Since he is a Guido and stupid ass shows like Jersey Shore were somehow really popular, I'd say he could have been big

He's about as popular as he would have been in any other scenario. He fought big names before he ever even signed with Golden Boy.

 

Paulie with power would still not have beaten Cotto, Khan or Hatton, the latter two brutally outclassed him and he barely landed a punch, so power doesn't come into it

Paulie has actually got a **** ton of opportunities in the sport, more than most fighters, also gets more excuses made for him than most fighters (could have should have would have, despite how easy he is to hit and his limitations as a fighter)

 

I love Malinaggi. He's brilliant talking boxing and soccer. He's a huge soccer fan and knows and loves the game.

He's the best!

 

And he loves a bet. Malinaggi is p4p number 1 sport analyst in my book.

i f i remember correctly, he had multiple hand injuries and surgeries causing him to not put everything in his punch. the fact that he pushed through this and competed at a elite level is amazing. i have a lot of respect for fighters like Paulie.

 

In my opinion, he should have got the decision against Broner. That would have been a huge win. Paulie had a very good career and should be proud of his achievements

 

I hated watching him as a fighter ( too feather fisted, often dull to watch, and he was overrated) but I love him as a pundit/commentator - he's one of the best and tells the truth straight.

 

No, its the fact that he would lose to most PPV worthy opponents. People would have tuned in if Paulie had beaten the likes of Khan or Cotto, or Broner. Heck, a lot of people tuned in for the Broner fight because of how marketable Paulie himself was.
What held Paulie back was his lack of skills, not lack of power(he had horrendous punch technique).
