Bryant Jennings vs Brandon Moore

Oh...God. As a guy who also liked Bryant a lot, I just feel dread here. He's one of few I wanted to pad his record a little more. It could've done him a world of good.

 

Jennings was pretty good. His biggest problem seemed to be his chin. He was beating Ortiz and Rivas handily before getting cracked. Gave old Wlad and Joyce tough fights as well. I think he was unlucky to have not won a belt. Better than Stiverne and Martin for sure, and he probably would have at the very least given Wilder a run for his money.

 

Down for this fight. Jennings being back in the mix at 42 would be a cool story. And winning a belt in this new chaotic HW landscape with the belts splintering all over the place is far from impossible. I'm sure he's well aware and motivated by that.

 

Interesting matchup.

Brandon Moore is a decent journeyman and bit underrated, he should win this. But Jennings will be in shape and very focused since this is his last opportunity.

 

If Jennings is even half the fighter he used to be he will kick Moores ass.

 

I don't think Jennings is going to win. Wouldn't be shocked but this is probably midnight for him.

 

I remember when the undefeated Jennings went against Klitschko, even though he was outboxed, he offered some resistance...

 

I don't recall him beating Ortiz handily prior to getting stopped in 7. I recall him losing most of the rounds, after being badly hurt in the 1st. Rivas fight was close, Jennings arguably ahead after 11, but blew it at the end.

He had a fight with Parker sheduled prior to Parker fighting Whyte instead. That would have been interesting, probably a close decision. I think Wilder would have stopped him but Jennings' level or above was seen as too big a risk prior to 2018, Jennings' team certainly wanted it. Jennings was also available to fight AJ instead of Molina, as David Price was.

I get the feeling he could have achieved more but barring his close win over Perez, things didn't go his way. But at 42 I don't see how he can win a belt.

 

Gassiev just defended the full WBA title against Peter Kadiru. The same version of Gassiev who lost to Wallin and was having a hard time with a 45 year old Pulev before finding the knockout. The IBF is vacant waiting to be snatched up. I'm not saying he wins a title, but there are a lot more opportunities and in this chaotic landscape we may see more unexpected belt holders.

 

A lot of new champions means a lot of title defenses, meaning someone with name value will be at the right place at the right time. If Jennings were still a name, then there is a small possibility its he who just fought Gassiev instead of Kadiru.

 

Gassiev would be the most viable option but even there it's a stretch. Jennings will be 42, 7+ years removed from his last credible performance, which was a close loss to a rather green pro Joyce. Lost x4, stopped x2, dropped several times. At least Wallin was early 30's, once beaten, never dropped as a pro.

 

And that almost certainly would have been a much better fight. I don't think some people realize just how bad Kadiru is. Pulev gave Gassiev a good fight and he's 45 years old.

 

You seem to be missing the point entirely. No once did I say Jennings would win a world title. I'm saying that with the division being much more open than it has been in a long time guys like him are more motivated to get back in the ring and test their luck.

 

Jennings deserves a title shot more than Kadiru. So do a lot of people though. This is a bar you need to find with a submarine.
