I am not exactly a dues paying member of Marciano's fanclub.

But by 2002 Holmes was 52 going on 53. At this point he was much worse then 1951 Louis. It is what it is. Marciano's got late 90s Holmes though that would be close fight.

 

Good fight? Holmes didn't fight enough quality opponents in the adjacent decade to know where to gauge him and Marciano is well...Marciano. Not going out on a limb either way. By good fight I mean I have no idea who wins it very well might not be a good fight.

But by 98,99? Yeah Marciano at his best should win.

 

Holmes of the Mercer fight could do it. In 2002 though? No chance. That Butterbean fight Holmes? Come on. Marciano would get inside and go to work.

 

Any version beats larry

Holmes up through about the Marvis Frazier fight, maybe up through David Bey or so, rips Rocky to shreds.

 

Larry just stands there so Rocky can catch him. No jab, no movement. Just lower himself with his arms behind his back and hands it to Rocky. Really ?

Oh ok. An absolutely at his peak Rocky gets 53 years old Larry. Your own reasoning proves how desperate Rocky fans are to keep him up there in the ATG rankings. He is an all time great. I posted a few years ago that these sort of discussions about Rocky is what makes him overrated. He deserves his place on Mount Olympus of boxing. Larry and Ali and Foreman at one time or another acknowledges his greatness but he was of his time. Could he beat modern athletic 6-3ish 210 and higher boxers. Think deeply and honestly.
