Lennox Lewis vs Tyson Fury

Yeah, I can't see anything other than a Lewis win here. Fundamentals much better. Fury has overachieved for his actual boxing ability in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, he's not terrible, but he makes mistakes galore, and his balance is often all over the shop. Lewis just a better boxer all round. And carried power.

 

No elite heavyweight would get dropped & arguably lose to a mere novice in Francis Ngannou, Fury was a good though not great fighter.

 

Prime for prime, I got Fury due to Lewis vs Vitali.

 

Fury and Vitali don't have the same style IMO. Also Lewis was probably sharper a few years earlier and he still beat Vitali despite the controversy and what whatever we make of it.

 

I think it would be a difficult fight for them both but Lewis was more consistent. Fury has looked a real quality fighter about 4 times in his career. In the ugly win against Wlad, in Wilder 2 where he looked a complete fighter (the only time we've seen it), Vs an over matched Whyte and Wilder 3 where he had to gut it out in a shoot out against a power but limited fighter.

Lewis showed up against Tua, Holy, unbeaten, Grant, Briggs, Morrison, Tucker, Ruddock.... and usually look pretty good doing it. I just think Lewis could ofset Fury, he could move (not to the level fury can but still very good) he was accurate and had huge power.. If that 3rd Wilder fight was Lewis in the opposite corner Fury gets put down and doesn't get back up. We've seen Fury struggle with big strong limited guys like Ngannu, Lewis is far better than him in every sense.

 

Which makes no sense, as the Lewis that beat Vitali was a 2 weeks notice, career tail end, retirement looming Lennox Lewis. You couldn’t get a further from prime example..

 

Not really, most people just try to take every bit of credit away from Vitali. Lewis beat tf out of Rahman and Tyson right before he fought Vitali. He wasn't in his prime anymore but he wasn't a shot old man, he was still very much elite. And short notice goes both ways.

The problem was how clueless Lewis looked when he was against a taller fighter with an awkward rythm and more mobility. Challenges he'd also face against Fury.

 

It is a legit win, but Lewis looked way too terrible at range for my taste and Fury is levels ahead of Vitali when it comes to boxing at range.
