Prediction respected, Father Time is undefeated. I'm happy that Spence is retiring now, he was a champion and it's sad to see him like this. Tszyu-Lara doesn't excite me, a very good fighter in decline and a champion who is now 43 years old.

I agree. Tim is done. Said it pre fight. He'll beat Spence, may win vs Lara but the first good opponent he faces will beat him. He might have one last performance in him vs Lara only due to Lara's age. No question Lara can beat him and would start the favourite in that fight. But Tszyu is done. I thought he was going to lose after round 5.

 

i said elsewhere, his brother would of flat lined Spence in 3 and jump straight back in and do Tim in 5 rounds, the speed and pop in Nikita compared to Tim in both ther last couple of fights look light years apart.

 

Agreed. Nikita is a great fighter on the way up.

 

sad fight. spence was one of my favorites at one time and seeing him so deteriorated was unpleasant. i knew he was going to look bad, was expecting it, and still found it hard to watch. his reaction time is that of an old man now, and so is his trigger. i expect him to sound completely punch drunk in a few years. hopefully im wrong but his motor skills seem to be quickly breaking down. best of luck to him in the future.

 

Neither man looked especially good imo. Props to Tim ofc, but this fight is far more indicative of Spence's decline than it is of Tim's quality. Would've liked to see Errol have a homecoming retirement fight in Dallas, but he's apparently managed his money well and is a happy family man, which is about as much as you can want in life, let alone life outside of boxing. I don't really see Tim being a threat at 160 but he might get lucky with a title shot. I don't think he beats Lara personally but Lara might grow old overnight. Maybe he beats Bentley? Not sure he does, but if I were managing Tim, that's the fight I would push for. McKenna, Hernandez, and Adames all do bad things to Tim I think though.

Honestly that was a fun fight-. I enjoyed the mystery going in. Spence brought his big name to Oz for a pay day. He tried to finish his career with a win as well. He handled himself pretty well I thought while he was here and took in the experience. Most fight fans were keen to see what Erroll had left after his unceremonious loss against Crawford 3 years ago.

All said and done now we know Spence was finished on the top level, not embarressingly so thiugh, he showed flashes of his old form I believe a tune up would have shaken off ring rust. But watching the replay then, Spence wasn't nearly the fighter he once was. Mentally or physically. From round 1 he didnt look right on his legs and wasnt mounting enough of a challenge to impose his game on Tszyu. Frustratingly unable to be effective or active long enough stretches to win rounds.

The finality of Spence career is sad to see, Crawford visibly more upset than Erroll who just accepted it before going in. I wasnt sitting not too far from Crawford.

The promotion was a good investment for Tim- he has an opportunity to scrape together a last run. He is fortunate to have good backers otherwise his career would have been toast. He has a premium scalp on his record now that earns him some future pay days. Its a little bit cynical from a purist point of view but smart.

I liked what I saw from Tim but he hasnt gone to another level, if anything he is getting older as well. He lacked ruthlessness vs Spence. Maybe he was being respectful, maybe he was content with testing himself and just getting the win.

Charlo would have been another cynical scalp but he cant get in the country anymore. Maybe bring Lara over here? I hope Tim tries to maximise his promoting power again for big fight nights. No more risky Fundoras or Murtazliaevs.

 

I think everyone expected Spence to not look as good, especially after 3 years since the Crawford loss. The question was how shot to bits was he and if he was at least good enough to beat someone like Tszyu and this just confirmed that he’s just no longer the same force that he once was. Tszyu got the job done and managed to bully Spence around but he also didn’t look overly impressive as he still plodded his way forward, absorbed what Spence dished out, and landed some good shots of his own.

I’m glad that Spence at least managed to go out on his shield, make it passed the final bell, and then call it quits for good. He’s had a good career. For Tszyu I think 160 is a good weight class for him to grab a title. I wouldn’t mind seeing him against Lara or Adames next.

 

Paulie has been one of the only decent commentators over the past decade. The rest are shills, but Paulie's honesty was why they blackballed him.

 

Spence needed the huge payday. He has legal trouble measured in millions. 5 of them to be precise.

He was never going to let a tuneup fight gone wrong jeopardize the huge payday he received yesterday.
