AJ should retire TODAY.

Of course he's not going to retire with 100m payday on the table and possible rematch.

 

Fury is the least likely person to cause AJ serious injuries, he couldn't crack an egg, no problem with fighting the equally shot Fury then retiring.

 

Rather watch Fury splat him all over the canvass first then he can retire.

 

You can say the same about most fighters who are past their best. Once the reflexes and punch resistance disappears, it greatly increases the risks of continuing to fight.

That said, if Joshua is going to continue fighting, a cashout fight against the other highest profile fighter in the division makes more sense than anything else. Particularly when Fury isn't exactly known for concussive power or high punch output.

 

The guy that has stopped Wilder twice, Chisora and Whyte? Sure he's not a massive KO artist but he can definitely punch.

Why leave £50m in the table each in a fight where neither fighter is going to take a battering and where nothing is at stake.

As for EH taking 20% , you'll find it's not even 5%.

 

There's a bit of me thinking Hearn is hedging his bets a little bit.

Insisting the fight has to be in the UK is a get-out clause. At any time they could activate it and say UK or nothing, which leads Fury to cancel the fight in a huff.

Hearn wasn't so bothered when AJ had big offers to fight Ruiz and then Usyk in Saudi. Fury liked fighting in the UK and Saudi when he couldn't get to the US!

As long as people like Chisora, Whyte, Allen, etc all feature prominently on cards, there's zero need for AJ or Fury to chuck it.

maybe back in 2021 against wilder, not 5 years on. If anyone should be worried about being damaged, it’s Fury, AJ could hurt him badly.

 

It was pure ego. Joshua and Fury have 2 of the most monstrous egos in the sport, and neither of them wants to be seen to be making accommodations for the other; it's been like this for a decade now. It's a big reason the fight never happened when it should have, and now it's happening when they're both completely finished because they're realizing that the sport has moved on, and the pair of them were never the best of their generation anyway.

Wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't happen at all. Fury likes to engineer his way out of it; he's done it before, and it's not that he's scared of Joshua, he does it when he feels like he's not being marketed as the A-side and they're not rolling out the red carpet for him. Joshua and Hearn are the same. It must be infuriating to deal with in the middle, trying to force it over the line. The sooner they're both out of the sport, the better, really. Wouldn't bother me at all if one of them or both of them retired tomorrow.

Fury may be 38 when/if the fight happens and 5 years removed from an impressive stoppage but he had enough power to KO Cunningham, Wilder x2 and Whyte, so why can't he KO Joshua? Ruiz: a short obese HW with less power than Fury, stopped a prime 29 year old AJ.

At 37, Joshua will be older than Cunningham, Wilder and Whyte. Joshua has been KO'd twice, the 2nd KO defeat very brutal, and dropped twelve times in a pro ring. Joshua has been in a horrific car crash. Joshua won't have performed well in 3 years when the fight comes round, will have had 8 low level rounds in 2.5 years, and was almost stopped in round 1 by a 20/1 tomato can in his previous fight.

Fury is more than capable of splattering Joshua.

 

This notion that Fury can't punch is a strange one. He's an inconsistent puncher sometimes arm punching, sometimes flicking punches out other times he sits down on then. The finishing shots V Whyte, Wilder in fight 3 and Cunningham are brutal. He has 25 stoppages he's not a huge puncher but I don't think you need to be to hurt AJ.

It's the styles that will probably win the fight. AJ is a box puncher but his chin is going no doubt about it and i'm not even sure he should be in the ring. Something feels off and I can't put my finger on false confidence maybe?.

Fury is slower but he's still probably got the ability and size to nullify a lot of what Joshua wants to do and if he lands big there's every chance AJ can't hold it. Prenga has 20 stoppages so even at lower levels you have to respect he can hit a bit but he didn't land full power shots to put AJ down.

I don't think AJ should be in the ring, but no way is he turning down the fight which makes him and his family super rich. If he can pull of the win there is even a chance of a money spinning rematch or a title belt to go for...But the warning signs should be there for his team. He's been put down by DD and Prenga - and lets be honest his last big quality boxing win for 5-6 years ago since then its been gatekeepers, journeymen and MMA fighters. (and TF isn't much better in this regard)

 

Watch out for the uppercut. Not the same one Pringle caught AJ with, but a long looping one coming from out of joshua’s eye line while he’s coming forward

 

That first upper cut that dropped AJ was a tap by heavyweight standards. A short arm punch where the back foot didn't even push up with it. I don't think anyone was more shocked than Prenga himself to see AJ go down. If you're getting dropped by that then Fury has certainly got the power to ice you.
