Perhaps Fury will take another tune up while AJ licks his wounds. Fury should show AJ how you deal with an obscure opponent by schooling Albania's finest, Nelson Hysa.

I wouldn't be surprised if AJ feels he needs another tune-up. Especially now Fury's had two.

AJ can't be trusted with another tune up. AJ/Hearn are just going to have to "roll the dice".

Oh, I know. I don't think it would happen, not a chance. But AJ will probably be wishing he could have one. Considering he didn't even go 2 full rounds, compared to Fury's full 19 this year; and I'm sure, had Prenga not ripped up the script, AJ probably would have took his time and tried to get as many rounds in as possible. But he was forced to beat Prenga at his own game. Whether Prenga is a bum or not, and I'd never heard of him previously, I did think it was a bit of a risk to go in with someone who has knocked out every guy he has beat. That shows he has good power, at the least. Joshua needed someone a bit feather-fisted, like a Wallin or Hughie Fury type, who he could take his time against, get some rounds in, and not have to worry too much about what was coming back at him. Come to think of it, Hughie Fury would've been perfect. Would've been a great opportunity for AJ to be on the mic afterwards, being all like 'I beat your cousin, now I'm coming for you.'

Then Fury has a third, and AJ a third, then Fury a fourth...

This is the fight marination that never ends... and it goes on and on my friends...

Yep. Tune-ups are overrated. Just get in the ring and ****ing fight.

Did Verhoeven and Ngannou feel, ooh, I should probably test the waters at boxing against a lesser opponent first before I face the heavyweight champion in boxing? Did Pacquiao try to take a tune-up before coming back for his title fight against Barrios? Yes, training can never replicate fighting, but that's what you train hard for. You've done it your whole life. It shows a lack of belief.

It reminds me of when you plan to start dieting, but keep putting it off. "I might as well wait til then". NO. Do it now.

By that logic, mayweather vs pac would define their legacies, but it doesn't. People do care about primes. Khan vs kell brook is another example. What about jones vs calzaghe?

Joshua vs Fury by now is near worthless and the world will know it in 20-30 years, too. It will be very much on display, too. Everyone will see that they are not the same as 10 years ago.

Sad, but true. Joshua nearly blew the whole show against Prenga and they won't be taking any more risks. They just can't afford to.

Thin compared to which HW resume? A guy from decades ago?

If AJ scrapes into Fury's top 5 it suggests the opposite, that Fury has a very strong resume.

May-Pac was big though. Calzaghe-Jones is often mentioned. And Khan is considered better than Brook. Even Lewis-Tyson did benefit Lewis a lot.

AJ is a top 4 or top 3 win for Fury by consensus, it's still big. And it will do huge numbers if it happens.

In England it might be 1

In the rest of the world I think it ranks behind Klitschko and Wilder both times

To me it seems Fury really didn't have many relevant and dangerous opponents. So Joshua might be seen as 3rd or 4th best win in hindsight (if old fury actually manages to even win against joshua, as joshuas punches are as dangerous to his by now very hittable self as his boxing ability is to joshua).
But not because it is a great win or even because joshua is actually sufficiently good at this point. He won't even be close to the relevance of the klitschko or wilder wins or the first chisora one either. Fury's wins apart from that to me just don't seem super relevant in a historical perspective.

And i think a fight like may pac can be big without being tied to the fighter's legacy. Not quite like tyson vs jones, but somehow it seems to be in crossover/old-men land from a historical perspective anyway. It is like a 'one-off'/novelty fight in common memory I think. It feels like that to me at least.

Calzaghe jones is mentioned and i think it meant something for calzaghes legacy, but is it not mostly to show he could still perform when jones couldn't anymore? At least I don't think it is relevant at all for jones' legacy as it drowns in all the other losses he accumulated late in his career.

And yes I also feel that tyson is seen as big in lewis' legacy. It should be clear that it wasn't prime tyson, but still he was good enough to actually warrant some of the legacy status I think.

I think this Fight will be as relevant to their legacies as they are able to Perform. If we see an aggressive joshua hitting fury who gets up and gets joshua under control and joshua still stays dangerous and tests fury multiple times and fury manages to adjust a few times and it is an actually good fight with two good performances - then I won't complain at all and it will rightfully play a big part in their legacies.

But I assume we will see more of their current flaws than of the great skills they once possessed. And the most interesting thing might be which one succumbs to his flaws first. Fury struggling to hurt joshua. Joshua being cautious and getting hit without head movement. Both not really using their feet, fury because he is old. Fury getting caught with unneccesary shots. And both with worse stamina than we are used to from the past.

If that is the case I think the fight will just be forgotten
