Is Joshua-Fury still an intriguing fight as nobody is sure who has declined worse at this stage?

Well, it was an old Wlad. Annoying someone and intimidating are two different things.

I can't say squeaking by Chisora is a flex on skills.

 

Of course I will. I watched Wilder Chisora too. But is it intriguing? Nahh.

 

Ali-Frazier 3 was just two shot old men conning the public for a retirement payday. It has far less significance than Ali's win over a prime Joe Bugner.

 

Ruiz is a lighter hitter than Fury and he demolished prime 29 year old AJ. Wilder and Cunningham were more durable than 37 year old AJ, maybe Whyte was too, yet Fury put them down for 10. This is not really speculation.

 

There is more intrigue in this fight than there was in 10 or 20 K2 defences.

Considering most people thought Chirosa was more skilled and Wilder was a glass cannon it was a more impressive win than many give him credit for.

Sure as **** beats getting knocked on your ass twice by Prenga.

 

Exactly - it tells us less than nothing about how it could've potentially gone in their respective primes.

But it's still intriguing in terms of who might win, because it's not necessarily clear - hunches are fair game, and it'll be interesting to see what actually does happen... Joshua's durability is gone, to the point that even Fury's very mediocre power could come into the equation, and he's declined like crazy in general - but then Fury looks really poor overall himself, and Joshua still has real power.

It's worth a watch, though you can guarantee they'll charge way more than they should.

 

Exactly - both had real, real power... But Wilder spent most of his career fighting pillowfisted bums and could afford to throw 100% power with reckless abandon - and he did. Joshua by contrast was the more skilled and fought a far higher calibre of opponents, so had to be a bit more careful and couldn't afford to throw it all all the time.

Hot take, but the punch that sparked out Ngannou was harder than anything Wilder ever threw - it's just that we rarely saw AJ in the kind of fights he could afford to commit as fully as that.

 

Chisora was more skilled than Wilder... But he was so shot it just didn't matter.

Wilder has a bit more in the tank than I thought, but that's not saying much - he's still extremely limited, as he always was, and with reduced pace and an element of doubt, he's become less effective at the one thing he was ever any good at.

 

You know what will be trotted out in the lead up... "This may be a better fight now, than it would have been in their primes."

 

There will certainly be excuses made for why you should pay over the odds for it, yep.

Fights like this are always an afterthought and never figure that much in legacy - it's fun, but that's about it.

 

To me it is heading into exhibition territory and I don't really give a flying about the alleged fight.
