And again I'm not saying AJ would have 100 per cent improved if he had gone the Wilder route and had 30 plus knock overs before fighting somebody with a pulse, the point was and still is that it's possible it stunted any further development

Wilder wasn't the same after the fury losses.
Joshua wasn't the same after the ruiz loss.
And Fury takes makhmudov and wach as his opponents after losing to usyk twice. Well he took the likes of pianeta, ngannou and schwarz before, so maybe fury is unaffected...

 

It's due to both, his lack of certain skills exposes his chin and durability.

Also, the way his bell gets rung when he gets hurt, he may have cognitive issues post retirement.

 

It was a common critique of Wilder's first 32 fights that he wasn't learning anything from blowing guys away in 1-4 rounds, and he needed to step up his competition to improve. If Joshua had fought twice as many journeymen before stepping up, maybe his progress is stalled.

AJ reached his potential. 29 years old, 22-0, 21 KO's, Wlad, Povetkin, Whyte, Parker. He did not lose to Ruiz because he was green.

It can work both ways and in Wilder's case I'll put the blame on his team for not using this tried and trusted route it's full potential
Everyone is different and it's like comparing apples and oranges when making direct comparisons between fighters

AJ probably did reach his potential, again the point was that it was a possibility that he could have opened up more potential if Hearn hadn't locked him in at world title level from his 17th fight

This. I've never understood the 'bodybuilder' accusation. Does he train with weights? Sure - just like every other boxer or other explosive athlete. Is he heavily muscled? Not especially. Look at the slabs of meat on Dubois, for example. What AJ does have is great proportions, low body fat, and relatively small joints that make his muscles pop more. Is he a called a bodybuilder because he's a bit stiff? Doesn't follow at all. Tyson, Roy Jones Jnr, Holyfield were arguably bigger than AJ, at least in the upper body, and were all fluid and athletic.

I don't especially like or dislike AJ, but the bodybuilder thing is a daft moniker and/or lazy pejorative.
