Baer turned pro at a very young age, while Usyk turned professional much later, and fought at some pretty low weights as an amateur.

When you he is trolling, does that mean he knows that Galento wasn't that good, and would never beat the more modern fighters, if so what is the point of " trolling " which is quite prevalent of late, why would any poster want to waste their time, on such infantile antics, I don't get it .

Agreed. I know InMemoryOfJakeLamotta isn't being serious here, but others on this site seem to try to hype Galento up for whatever reason. If you hadn't witnessed him in action, you'd think the guy was virtually unhittable when he went into his crouch. I've read on this forum that he'd be top 10 in ANY era. No idea how anyone can possibly come to that conclusion.

Keep in mind, Tony did manage to wobble and drop the pre-1960s cream of the crop, Joe Louis, and he wasn't the only sort of mediocrity to do so. Not seeing the pre-1960s crowd doing very well at all vs. the modern elites, and I'm not sold that Louis is an exception.

Just a tidbit but Baer was the tallest and widest 6’2 1/2” guy I’ve ever seen. He def. had the height edge on Jim Braddock who was listed most commonly as 6’2 1/2” himself (otherwise listed as 6’2”). I think his son Jethro was a good 6’4” and he never looked that much taller than his old man who might’ve shrunk a touch at any rate.

 

Max Baer was a sht boxer. Absolutely horrible. Gurgen Hovhannisyan is #39 ranked heavy today according to boxrec and he would knock Baer TFO.

Most rounds boxed to date - only 8 in which he copped a MD over a 6’4” 309 lb’er.

Eye test. He can box. Baer can not. Baer would be getting caught with so many shots between his goofy, wind-up haymakers his face would be blown up like a dirigible on fire.

 

I’m not pretending that Baer was a great boxer but aside from the eye test, let’s wait and see how it unpacks for Big Gub - that’s the real test.

He wasn’t looking too hot in the latter stages of his 8 rounder.

Schmeling was a far better boxer than Baer and was heavily favoured to beat him.

Sure, Schmeling was smaller but Baer defied the majority, predictive eye tests and ultimately stopped Schmeling in no uncertain fashion.
