Middleweight Fantasy King of the Hill 8/12- Hopkins vs Monzon

I favor Monzon by UD. Also how i voted.

 

why 12 rounds? Monzon obviously one of the best fighters all time in the championship rounds. Making a 15 round fighter go 12 is like saying does Hearns beat SRL if it was 12 rounds only? Most say Hearns would have won .. but I say then Leonard knowing he was down on the cards obviously makes his move sooner. Monzon never fought 12 rounds for a championship which is COMPLETELY different than going 15 ,, its not even the same style pace of fight .. How will Monzon do in a 12 round fight is a mystery. He neede 15 , end of story..

I think you have to figure out the best fighters first at MW with Greb, Monzon, Hagler, Roy Jones and SRR before Hopkins name comes up . imo

So Monzon given only 12 rounds?? No one knows , he needed 15, trained for 15 not 12 .. completely different fight imo

 

Hopkins got quite a lot of mileage out of being the bigger man with better timing etc. He often got off first and used that to dictate the flow of a fight. I think Monzon's feet and ranginess are going to be a big problem for Bernard, and that looong jab is going to reset Hops often. Neither of these guys has crushing power, but they both hit solidly enough so that you can't just rush them. I feel Monzon would be able to dictate the terms of engagement more often than Hopkins would; taking Carlos on points.

Although I voted Monzon UD it is shocking how one sided the results are.

A more serious answer would be to basically nitpick at Monzon's record and point out that Monzon had a hard night out with 'x' therefore Hopkins, who was much better, would have prevailed.Unfortunately for Popkins, his own 160 resume is not exactly steel and if we swap Monzon for, say, Segundo Mercado, then Bernard gets introduced to a vista-vision of pain.

Another argument might be that Hopkins was significantly larger than many of the guys Monzon fought and that this might make the difference. I mean, maybe, but Monzon seems faster and lighter on his feet, so if we are back at the question of who controls the exchanges, then I feel Monzon has the edge.

 

You would've seen a more active and energized Monzon in a 12 round fight. Hearns vs Leonard would've gone completely differently if it were a 12 round fight because it would've significantly changed the pace. There’s no reason to complain; it’s a fantasy fight.

 

I'm not complaining. And I agree with your post 1000%. But what you dont know that this has been discussed before and the VAST majority here think that Hearns wins that fight if it were 12.. Point being is what you are saying and I am saying is the unpopular opinion that yes that fight is a COMPLETELY different fight as Leonard makes his move earlier. He has to he is down on the cards and he is much more experienced up to that point than Tommy. So I am glad someone else is saying it .
